Well, they did probably update the avionics, the engines, possibly boosted the lasers, increased maneuverability...it's almost a new ship now. (I suppose a good comparison might be the F-14A vs. the proposed Super Tomcat 2000).Vympel wrote:XJ-Wing ... what the hell were they thinking?
"Yeah! Let's make an UBER X-Wing by giving it a THIRD torpedo tube! Yeah!"
Oh yeah now that XJ-Wing is unstoppable ... Stupidity ...

I agree with that sentiment. The B-wings (they really look like crosses though) are good looking fighters. They have heavy armament and they appear to be just as manueverable as Y-wings and perhaps even X-wings (I don't know what the EU specifically has to say about them, the EU seems to be biased in favor of X-wings). They also make great toys.phongn wrote:And bah, my favorite has always been the B-Wing.
I'm not sure about look - they aren't the most attractive fighter, but I've always been partial to heavy fighters/bombers. It's always fun tangling with TIEs in X-Wing Alliance in a B-Wing (mainly because they have great difficulty withstanding all that firepower).
Of course, in Wing Commander Prophecy or Secret Ops, I love to fly around in the Devestator, shooting up Devil Rays with the plasma cannon

The only problem I ever had with the B-Wing is that getting decent recharge rates on the guns meant having to loose too much speed. Baseline they are just as cooking as an X-Wing but when you start siphoning power they lose speed a LOT faster.phongn wrote:And bah, my favorite has always been the B-Wing.

Most of your kills are going to come from the rear quarter anyway. Also I don't think that was the case with the X-Wing in the DS2 tunnel run. Still he might have taken more than one double blast (so 4 hits as oppossed to 2).Vympel wrote:Yeah but their deflectors were switched to double front. I.e. their rear shields were deactivated. All X-Wings killed took rear hits.
Glancing hits I think all of the ships are probably able to take them but the A-Wing is able to manuever out of the line of fire when the first balst hits, which makes them just as survivable as the X-Wing in tail chases.
