We don't think you understand the seriousness. Please send a ranking officer, preferably of your navy, to the conference.

In space Admiral Santiago stopped thinking. Opening his eyes he turned to the com station.

"Open a tight beam channel to all the command ships in the fleet. Now."

"Channel open sir."

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have some disturbing news about the size of the overseer's, as we now know his name, teritory. We do, however, have a map of his supposed teritory. As it is I am going to start a long term raid on the overseer's teritory, we will be limited only by our supplies. I would prefer that some of you join me in this attack, though I understand if your nations are hestiant to do such a thing. We will be leaving as soon as the last of the company of our marines left in the facility are extracted along with the remains of our lost soldiers, and after we have sent any salvaged material from the machine back to safer ground. We will be leaving as soon as that is over, this will be your only chance to join us for now. That is all."

EDIT: Formatted to make it easier to read.
There was a lot of barratry between the Rear Admiral and a response, but finally the message came, the response wasn't what Santiago had hoped for.

<<Admiral Santiago, I regret to inform you that the Commonwealth does not agree with such a policy and would rather work to combat the machines locally first, before sending warships long distances to combat foes of unknown strength, foes that might not even exist.>>

Edge of Baeloaren Space

It had been at least a month since the first probes had been launched to search for the machine fleet, most nations either had such devices ready or quickly built probes, the Baeloarens had approached the problem differently.

Probe Carrier - Automated ship, carries 5 workers in cold sleep for emergencies. Has 25 probe bays, transports probes into a region, releases them to search individual systems, then collects them as they return and proceeds to a new region. Uses a small fusion reactor and is spends the time waiting for the probes collecting stellar hydrogen, uses a regular Baeloaren Casimir Drive for faster, more efficient FTL travel. Aside from the workers in cold sleep it has numerous small repair bots of different styles which maintain both the carrier and its probes.

Probe - Carry less fuel than the others since the distance they need to travel is considerably less than the lone probes. They also do not require high power long range transmitters, this space allows for better sensors and more durability.

By spending more time developing their probes, the Baeloaren probe system should deliver results much faster and for less money than the other nations, of course a number of machine bases have already been found, was the wait worth it? Only time will tell.

To: Interested Parties
From: Ravenlock Consortium
Subject: Trade Fair Details

Thank you for showing interest in the Consortium Trade Fair. We understand that attendees may be worried about security matters, especially with the current state of the galaxy. Rest assured that every measure is being taken to make our guests as safe as possible. The Trade Fair will take place on the specially modified Luxury Liner Dream Forge, and will be under the protection of Alpha Fleet and the newly formed Delta Fleet, both in Ark Sector at the time of the Fair. Holding points for friendly fleets will be stationed near to the Fair location, in positions that would make interceptions of incoming hostiles relatively simple affairs. All ships will be given secure communications frequencies (and devices, if needed), on arrival at the Trade Fair to better facilitate communication should something unthinkable happen.

In addition, two SENTINEL teams will be stationed on board the Dream Forge, along with a detachment of Voidform and standard security teams, so as to best supply the best possible security for our guests. The Trade Fair will proceed as scheduled, and will meet at the following coordinates, after which point, it will be moved to an as-yet undisclosed location, which will be given to all attending ships (and which will determine the holding points).

We hope that all attendees will have a safe trip, and we will do our best to ensure that your experience at our Trade Fair will be both enjoyable and lucrative.

From: Office of the Director
Subject: Meeting

++++ENCRYPTED TRANSMISSION++++

The Director apologizes for his lateness in visiting Earth. Please rest assured that his next stop is to Earth itself. He should be along shortly. Once again, we apologize for the delay.

The equipment was finally made ready, the Monacorans had been allowed to inspect as much as possible, but the time had come to remove the threat of Arcanists returning to the Galaxy. The Consortium’s understanding of Quantek was different from that of the Arcane Empire, the Vampires, and even the Skaven of Monacora. It was perhaps less developed as well, not nearly capable of powering entire starships or acting as brutal capital scale weaponry, much less the mental domination of entire planets, but the Quantek of the Consortium had its own unique methods. The technique was deceptively simple. In Q.U.E.S.T. Quantek development, the devices had been used to “reset” Quantek devices to a null state, to remove the connections from the weave of superstrings, allowing new connections to be set. Without a careful understanding of how the strings were originally connected, however, the device simply tore them asunder, rendering the targeted device worthless. Unlike a Quantek Pulse, which would merely disrupt the connections with the strings, this device was a nullifier, and required more time and energy to work properly. Against the gates, it would take hours, if not days, to completely rip the connections with the weave away. The technicians worked from a distance under the protection of Consortium Groundform Troops, complete with heavy armor and air support on alert and Monacoran Inspectors. In case the Arcanists decided to send through any nasty tricks, the Consortium would be ready.

The lead of the project, a scientist from Q.U.E.S.T., gave a nod, and the nullification devices went to work. The gates would be closed, and the galaxy would move on.

Rear Admiral Korolev smiled as her newly formed fleet exited from hyperspace at the designated rendezvous point. It wasn’t precise, but then Consortium hyperdrive never was the most accurate FTL system in the galaxy. The Battlegroup from Alpha Fleet was waiting for her, and she responded to the hail from the Antaeus.

{{Hello again Radim. It’s good to see you again. It has been far too long.}}

{{It’s about to get longer. I just got word from the Monacorans. Some new development with the machines. Don’t know what happened on the latest raid, but it’s big. I’m heading out in an hour.}}

{{What? Why?}}

{{They wanted a ranking officer. I got tapped. Harris is staying behind, so he’ll work with you. Get in some maneuvers, get your crews up to speed, and cover the Trade Fair.}}

{{You mean the Director is sending you off without a muzzle? Must be serious.}}

{{It’d damn well better be. Babysitting colonists, diplomats and mechantmen isn’t my idea of a good time, but I don’t like being away from my command either.}}

{{Look at the bright side, at least you have a command. Some Admirals have to satisfy themselves with desk jobs.}}

{{I’d get more kills at a desk, the way things are going. Try not to get spaced out here while I’m gone.}}

{{I’ll do my best. Good luck}}

{{Thanks. Radim out.}}

Veithan Space
Veitha III

The Director took a deep breath as he prepared himself for meeting with the Prince of Gladsheim. Two high-ranking meetings so close to one another. The files he had read on the Grand Empire had been interesting to say the least, mostly for the omissions than for what relevant data there was. They apparently inhabited Gas Giants, like the Dra’kol, but were humans, or at least derived from human stock. Beyond that, data was somewhat limited. They appeared to look down on Earth-type planets and their inhabitants, referring to them as “mudballs”. Still, they were reasonable enough to enter into a defensive alliance with the Veithans, which was a point in their favor. They kept to themselves, were relatively non-expansionistic, at least outwardly.

Jon Cameron smiled as his Veithan escort led him to the room where Crown Prince Jorm was waiting for him. The face of the prince was familiar, it hadn’t clicked until just now, but this was the Gladsheim representative at the Grand Ball. Had they met there, before the attack? The suit Jon wore today was not the suit of the Board he wore at the Grand Ball, but rather the uniform of the Director, a somber black accented with silver and white. He nodded respectfully to the Crown Prince, watching him closely for a reaction.

“Thank you for agreeing to meet with me, Crown Prince. I must apologize, however, as I am not certain if we have met before, and under what conditions our meeting may have been. I lost…several days in the attack on Terra,” he left some things unsaid. Soulcatcher would get out soon enough, and if need be, he would give the Crown Prince the same description he gave the Veithans.

Monacoran Space
Far Point

Admiral Radim’s escort came out of hyperspace outside of Sol’s Oort cloud, coordinating with Far Point STC all the way in. Radim had with him a small command staff, technicians, crypto specialists, and a few other key personnel. He was good at planning fleet actions, but he still needed advisors for other situations, just as any other high-ranking official. It was annoying not to have Harris dealing with the advisors, but he’d survive for a few days, and Korolev needed Harris more than he did. Nevertheless, the Admiral was not in a good mood, and whatever the Monacorans wanted him for was going to make it worse, that much he was certain of.

“This is Fleet Admiral A.J. Radim of the Ravenlock Consortium. Let’s get to business.”

Crown Prince Jorm looked at Director Cameron. He did remember him.
<<They seem to have somewhat similar tech, at least it allows them some resurrection of sorts.>>
<<It seems so, your Majesty. They're quite reclusive themselves, but have good relations with the Veithans as well. They may be worthy. But lets hear him out.>>

"It is a pleasure, Director," he walked the short distance to greet him physically. As was usual, he was taller than his counterpart, though this one was rather pleasantly without the usual...imperfections normal humans seemed to have settled with. His lip curled a bit at the somber suit he wore. Not that it didn't look acceptable. Just too, well, boring. He himself wore a white flexi-leather trouser, and a tightfitting silk shirt, which did manage to conceal his body, yet show everything at the same time. Curiously, the local youth seemed to have become quite interested with him.
After the Director finished speaking, he slightly chuckled.
"Death, such a nuisance. I remember my first one. An untoward cloud-surfing accident. Quite embarassing. And had to wait for two weeks for a replacement body, it was really annoying, especially as I missed the annual Chrysanthemum Ball. But you seem to have recovered quite well yourself. But what, if I may be so blunt, brings you to me?"
He slightly inclined his head.

Mechanoid System

Seing as the first fleets were leaving the system, the small fleet prepared for leaving themselves. He commed his Veithan allies and notified them of their departure from the system.
But before they left, Admiral Eklund thought it was nice to have some practise.
<<Prepare for a Eridani maneuvre.>>
Across the fleet, pattering nodes were overpowered. It was a relatively risky maneuvre. One slight miscalculation, bad things might happen.
They calculated the wormholes which would bring them to the lifeless planet near them, and one jump further.
Normally, nodes were only sufficient for one jump, but overpowered, they were able to do two jumps at once, but with a great price on the lifetime of the nodes in question.
Their wormholes opened and they swallowed into them, only to reapear in orbit around the planet. They opened fire from all weapons on the irrelevant planet below and some even more irrelevant part of an ocean with a tiny island in it, on the planet's other side of the occupying power's useless struggle to secure this planet, and then instants after firing swallowed out into another set of newly formed wormholes.
Behind them, a patch of ocean still boiled, and the tiny island was glowing in the night.

[Far Point, Monacoran Space]

Third Space Lord, the Admiral Lord Alexander Moncrief was rather put out. The Monacoran's insistance on a meeting meant putting certain operations of a temporary hold while things were figured out. Given what was supposed to be happening, he was rather testy.

"Tell them our delagation has arrive. We'd like clearance for the surface immediately.'

[AINS Wulfen, Flagship of the Expeditionary Force]

"Gentlemen, I'm satified, well satisfied with the results of the last exercise. It went off well. "

Given Admiral Alistair Von Bek's reputation for being a tough task master that was high praise indeed. More than a few of the assortment of flag officers had to act quickly to stifle grins. But however sparing the praise was, the results were hard to argue with. The extra time spent drilling the disparite units into one was well worth it. In a way the delay was working the advantage of the Expeditionary Force.

"That's good to hear Admiral." spoke Rear Admiral Percivil Beckett "But I think all of us are waiting to hear when we'll ship out."

"I know, and I have yet to recieve formal orders. But I've been given to understand that by the end of the week."

"Excellent."

All the men and women around the conference table smiled. Not the smiles of joy but of the predator finally turned loose. Their nation had been attacked and they had all felt the need to do some thing about. Now with the chance coming closer by the hour, they were ready.

The Krell fleets were united once again after being briefly split in its two-pronged attack on the Overseer worlds. The Combine forces had been so overwhelming in number that they had sufferend no casualties, tearing the few mechanoid ships apart before they had time to bring weapons to bear. Shields had only taken minor damage on some of the smaller vessels, and everything was recharged and ready. Word had come down through the chain of command that energy weapons were to be used more than anything else in order to cut down on the supply that would be used in each successive attack. This was full out war, with a long supply line, one that would be easily cut. The fleets had to be self-sufficient.

A few last cargo ships were carrying supplies back and forth from the Monacoran fleet to the Krell fleet as the two forces prepared to launch their long campaign of destruction against the Overseer homeworlds. Harleys had been sent to many of the nearby Overseer worlds to scout out what resistance they would encounter, and even if there were any machines there at all. Intel from the machines would likely be inaccurate, at best. All that was needed now was a little time before the Monacorans gave teh word, and the final bttles would begin.

[AINS Wulfen, Asgard Expeditionary Force]

"All ships will prepare for transistion. I want every one in postion for this." Admiral Von Bek passed one last order before going into battle.

"Yes Admiral." Replyed the nervous young tech that was responsible for managing the groups comms.

* * *

The ships of the Expeditionary Force sprang back into real space in the New Beijing System. They had come to take their vengeance for the coup attempt in which the PIR had acted as a silent partner.

Recon drones were released to speed ahead of the Asgard fleet. The sensitive eyes and ears of the fleet, the Mosquito sesnor birds crept behind them under stealth. The massive wall of battle formed up with their battlecruisers and screen running ahead. It was a text book start to the operation.

* * *

"Get a hold of the carriers, I want our fighters out. Their ships can't take us but if their fighters get a shot at us it's going to be rough. And get an anti-shipping strike on the ready."

* * *

The fighters and interceptors of the Asgard roared out of their bays and sprinted ahead. Their opponents were already on the way. Nearly a thousand PIR strike craft hurtled themselves into the teeth of the Asgard fighters.

The two groups met and merged. As they did it broke down into a wild melee. Despite the sheer improbability of it, the fight had degenerated into a near free for all as both sides twisted and turned, seeking the moment in which they might bring death to the enemy. Thermonuclear fireballs broke the eternal night and het-laser slashed through it.

As both sides once more seperated, the Asgard force had won. At a stiff cost to be sure but the PIR turned back as well. Most of the bombers savaged and their fighters had run. They would be back though.

* * *

Under cover of the raging Tempest, the Mosquitos had slipped in close. They practically stared the orbital fortresses in the face. Over ansible links they transmitted the targetting data back to their mother ships.

* * *

"All ships, we have the targetting data for the forts. I want a full salvo on them. We've got to kill them and they're not going to die easy."

* * *

The opening salvo of the Battle of New Beijing was fired off. Several thousands MDMs lurched from their pods as powerful grav drivers kicked the 120 ton projectiles from their tubes.

They flew through the blackness of space, hurtling at an ever building velocity to their inevitable destruction. They were targetted on but a handful of New Beijing's 38 orbital platforms, in fact specifically the Type-99 platforms that housed much of the planets fighter strength.

Point defense cannons blazed in a fury. Yet as they approached the missles kicked their wedges off and switched over to the inertialess terminal stages. Darting amidst the hail of coherent light they closed to their target. Many of them died.

But those that got through were enough. Each platform was in turn hit by at least a dozen capital ship missles. They were tough, the multi-kilometer stations wouldn't die easily. But the missles did cripple them. No fighters would be operating from them for a good long while.

* * *

"Launch the bombers. They're to try and get through to hit the forts where possible. Repeat where possible, I don't want them getting killed in trying cowboy shit." Admiral Von Bek said. His voice was cold as ice and he looked for all the world like it was all a simulation.

"Get them off the decks before we close with the battle line. It seems they're coming out to play after all."

* * *

The PIR Battle Line advanced on a corona of fire. Their massive ion drives were flaring as they closed with the Asgard. Since staying with the forts was an increasingly suicidal proposition they were now charging.

It was a hopeless proposition; two aging battleships and five battlecruisers were challenging six superdreadnaughts and nine battlecruisers. Confident and ready the Asgard ships accelerated to meet their foe. It was the Charge of the Light Brigade on a collosal scale.

More missles roared out of the tubes down at the PIR forces. Salvo on salvo hurtled from the pods as the Asgard were determined to smite their enemy. The PIR ships, in open space and with room manuver faired better then the orbital platforms. Only six destroyers, four cruisers and a battlecruiser dropped out of formation, reduced to rent and broken hulks.

The PIR counter fire was not with out effect. Short ranged, their birds were still deadly. A heavy cruiser and three Asgard escort destroyers staggered out of formation, dying as their life bleed out of them.

And then it reached energy range. It was short and brutal encounter as the overwhelming Asgard fleet crashed head on through the PIR force. Merciless bolts of coherent light and gamma-rays flew back and forth. Ship were turned into splintered metal as they were violated by energy beams. There was little time for tactics, it was simply firepower on target. And the advantage told, heavily. The PIR ships charged into the jaws of death, but they didn't come out.

In return for their death the PIR had taken out three heavy cruiser, a pair of battlecruisers crippled and the superdreadnaught Retribution missing most of her portside weapons.

* * *

On the bridge of the Wulfen, Admiral Von Bek still stood as if carved from marble. His ship had been battered in the suicidal charge. But the reports were coming in to him were good.

"Admiral, the commander reports that the bombers succeeded in taken out a number of the orbital forts. They'll need a second strike to finish them"

"None sense, we send our terms and if they don't surrender we simply whack them from beyond range."

* * *

The terms came back: Accepted. New Beijing had surrendered. The Politiburo had capitulated. Whether the other worlds world, no one knew.

Already the battlecruiser Task Forces were readying themselves to head for Mao-tse-tong and Ho Chi Minh. They would be enough to sweep up the forces remaining there. Word was already sent back to Mugin to send BatCruRons Six and Seven to New Shanghai.

RE: PIR Action

Regrettably, we have been forced to undertake a police action with in the PIR. They had provided support to the recent coup attempt and were a threat to the safety and stability of the Asgard Empire. What actions will ultimately prove necessary we do not know.

However we will not be doing anything more at the moment than seeing that their military is neutralized. We will not interfere with legitimate trade with in the PIR sphere nor interfere in internal PIR business dealings. Life will go on, there will be no oppressive regime. We did this to protect our selves and the peace of all.

After careful examination of the report given to us by the Scourge of Foolishness, we, the government of the confederacy, believe it would be prudent for us to become more involved in the politics of the wider galaxy. For this reason, we believe that our two nations should set up embassies within each others borders, and an exchange of important information should take place, as we are fairly behind in galactic affairs.

We welcome you to the galaxy and would be quite happy to exchange ambassadors at this time. Please send any special requirements your staff may have ahead and we will drill out space for your embassey. Futher more we look forward to exchanging information and the beginning of trade relations.

The UP diplomat was escorted into the Ministry of Trade and Finance buidling and to the office of one of the senior Under-Secretaries.

"Sir Alexander, welcome. What can we do for you?"
"Thank you for seeing me Sir. Forgive me for coming straight to the point, but I know you're a busy man. As you know the people of the UP live almost totally underground, as such mining and drill equipment is something we pay much attention to. I believe there would be a market for this in Asgard. Also, I understand you have a heathy beef industry. The United Protectrates would be interested in arranging the importation of beef and live cattle if possible. We also have at the moment a surplus of metals from our mining operations.

"Let's see it." Fleet Admiral Andersen said taking the pad from the rating.

"6 Ruths, 5 Davids, 17 Marks and another 10 Frigates. Good. Looks like the Moshie and Aarons are almost finished. Wish we didn't have to make the Rebecca's and Kincad's so damn big, it takes forever to build them. Anything else?" The Fleet Admiral asked.

"Second wave of probes are almost done. Hope they find something Sir."

"Yeah the first 300 were bust, but the galaxy is a big place."

"As a matter of fact, I admire a man that gets to the point. Too many diplomats would simply trade pithy quotes all day and do nothing."

The diplomat smiled.

"I take it from your offer you wish to trade your mining equipment and raw materials in exchange for beef and eventually a cattle stock of your own?"

"Amoung other things. Electronics and so forth. But the livestock is the big one. The United Protectrates simply doesn't have any native supplies of beef. I understand your military uses energy weapons?"

The arrival of ships wasn't ignored; several destroyers detached themselves from their patrols and slid through space towards the intruders. Neither they, nor the strange tower, showed any lifesigns.

"We can provide a good deal of basic electronics. Our current generation moly-circuits haven't yet been licensed for export but we expect they will shortly."

"And yes, our navy uses energy weaponary."

"If possible our navy would like to look at any unclassified energy weapons techongly. We are a railgun and missle navy and energy weapons are still a bit of a surprise to us. Luckly our shields seem has effective against energy weapons has solid projectile weapons."

"We might be willing to sell you designs for a basic laser or graser. I'd have to check with the Admiralty on that before I can say anything definite. I know we wouldn't be able to show you much beyond the basic models, certainly nothing on a par with our own military's."
