It's suprising that by the 24th century they don't have a better form of Rogaine. I guess they aren't all that advanced.
i seem to recall in First Contact Troi mentioning something about how they weren't supposd to care about things like physical appearance too much in their time, given that it's largely superficial or something like that. When she and crusher were sitting on that planet with the odd elements in the atmosphere that retarded aging.

So its entirely possible that people in the trek universe in the 24th century simply aren't as obsessed with personal appearance as they are in the 20th. At least those in the Federation anyways.

I thought (according to Nemesis - bleh) that Picard's hair loss was some funky genetic disorder. It could be that no hair-restoration treatment is able to restore Picard's hair.

Considering how well groomed everyone is and all the fashion conciousness that Troi displays, I think we can rule that out.

While in the military, appearance is part of discipline, still, we don't see people looking like "smelly bums" do we? If nobody cared what you looked like and you didn't care, some people would look that way you'd think.

Though again, this could be part of the "nobody has any reason to work except the good of mankind because we're an enlightened socialist utopia" mentality. Maybe everybody spends time looking their best also for the "good of mankind." ; )

Well, you are a member of a STvsSW debate forum. It is absolutely necessary to know a lot of useless info about Star Trek, and also, Star Wars.

In fact IMO we are beyond even trekkies in our knowledge. That's only because I find our knowledge to based on analysis of Star Trek, and therefore, to be much more valuable to the common day man.
I am ashamed I mixed the two. I will blame it on Work.
My apologies to all involved.

After seeing so many gaudy one-piece jumpsuits, especially on Jake Sisko and Nog, I'd have to agree. And Quark displays all the fashion sense of Londo Mollari.

He's a Ferengi; he's just being opulent, as any successful business person endeavors to be.

Of couse, it could just be the humans. You get people in the TNG who obsessed with appearance, like Lwaxana Troi for instance.

On the subj. of the Ferengi, I've got one from DS9's 'The Magnificent Ferengi':

(Quark is helping Nog move a crate to et up a defense grid)

Quark: So, how much is this going to cost me?

Nog: Consider it free of charge.

Quark: Starfleet has REALLY corrupted you, hasn't it?

The first appearance of Mr. Barcley, can't remember the episode though.

Wesley is calling Mr. Barcley for Broccoli behind his back, and it spreads through the ship, even La’Forge said Broccoli in front of the captain which he didn’t like and ordered it stopped.

But when Mr. Barcley was on the bridge examining some mysteriousness with a glass the captain accidentally called him Mr. Broccoli.

That made me laugh. :)

That would be the episode Hollow Pursuits, which also saw another hilarious moment when Troi saw Barclay's fantasy vision of her... right after she had stopped Riker from deleting the fantasy image of himself.

Plus that mental thing from the last episode of TNG could be genetic. Man, he's one pooped-up little frenchman. Must be why he has an English accent.

Then why did Troi get away with not even wearing a uniform for so long, instead opting for the low-cut jump-suit? Just to give the rest of the bridge crew something to stare at while she pointed out the blisteringly obvious? "Captain, the level of tension on the ship is rising." Well gee, no shit, lady. We're on red fucking alert. What the fuck are you even doing on the bridge anyway? You're a counselor, not a bridge crew member. Does Crusher have her own seat on the fucking bridge? No! Because she's a doctor, and she belongs in fucking sick bay! Just like Troi belongs in a fucking office. What counselor on a naval vessel has counseling appointments in her quarters? A stupid fucking worthless one. Either that or a slut, though she could be a slut and a stupid fucking worthless counselor too. Jesus, go eat some fucking chocolate ice cream and puke it up in the bathroom you stupid bitch.

I'm sure that you're wondering how that rant is related to Trek jumpsuits. Well, have you ever thought of how fucking hard it would be to go to the bathroom if you had to fucking take your jumpsuit off every time nature called? Or has waste disposal become obsolete in the Federation? Are feces just beamed out of people now? That would explain why everyone is so fucking up tight. These people have never taken a good, long shit after eating a jumbo chili dog with cheese fries and a beer in their lives. They don't know what they're missing.

Well, she did sleep around alot. Commander Riker, various dignitaries and ambassadors, even the token Klingon. . .er, i mean, Worf.

The single funniest monologue in Star Trek History, from an episode of TNG.

Data:

Felis Cattus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadroped, carnivorous by nature.
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications,
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail, quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
Oh Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Someone had a little too much fun writing that one :D
Clever and witty signature to be inserted here, just as soon as I think of one.

Does she actually have them in her quarters? I know we see her "office" in Hollow Pursuits, as well as at least a few other episodes.

imdb.com wrote:Shinzon is an actual Chinese name, chosen by writer John Logan as it continues the trend of Chinese names for Romulan characters (as well as the new Reman characters). Logan admitted that he has absolutely no idea what the name actually means.

...

Shinzon means "heart" in Chinese (Manderin).

The ironic thing is that in the novel "Captain's Blood", we learn that Shinzon was more than just a name for the Remans - it was the title of the outsider who would free them from slavery and bring them peace. Too bad the Tom Hardy Shinzon fucked it up for them, eh?
