Reagan didn't just lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Stormtrooper, he claimed that the Nazis buried at Bitburg were victims just like those who were killed in the Nazi camps.
Fuck you elffart, anybody who dies in a fucking war is a victim. And you pissing on the graves of ANY soldier is a good way to get yourself assfucked by just about anyone, anywhere.

Oh Captain, My Captain! You're soooo emotional! By your sterling logic, Mohammed Atta was a "victim" of 9/11, right?

Right-wing columnist Norman Podhoretz, writing on the very right-wing editorial page of the Wall Street Journal called Von Reagan's statement that the Nazi interred at Bitburg were "victims just as surely as the victims in the concentration camps", the most disgusting act of moral equivalency he had ever seen. I think it's disgusting, too.

But apparently, heaping praise on Nazis gives you a hard-on and makes you want to fuck someone in the ass. Charming.

I just want to be sure on something before I respond, were the Bitburg soldiers all working in concentration camps?

And I wasn't saying that the Nazi's were victims as surely as the victims of the concentration camps were. I find the statement just as sickening as you do. I HATE the Nazi thought process of thought with the blaming of things on the Jews, it was terrible.

I got the idea from your post that you believed that the idea of placing a wreath at the tomb of the unknown Stormtrooper was sickening. That's mainly what I was upset at. If I got the wrong impression I'm sorry.

Actually, most of the men buried at Bitburg were regular German soldiers. However, a number of them were SS. Reagan was told about the SS men before he left for Germany, including a face-to-face rebuke from Elie Wiesel at a public ceremony at the White House. In spite of the fact that there were other German cemetaries without SS buried in them that he could have visited instead, Reagan insisted on going and not "embarassing" Helmut Kohl (if anything Kohl embarassed him).

This was bad enough, but not worthy of extreme loathing -in my opinion.

The thing that pisses me off to this day was his equating of Nazis (including SS) to the people who died at places like Auschwitz. It was the most vile thing I've ever known an American president to say and reason enough to take all the attempts at making Reagan into a saint with a few tons of salt.

Apology accepted.
