Mulrooney to speak at Reagan's Funeral at Nat'l Cathredral

Post by MKSheppard »

Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his wife Mila pause at the casket of former President Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) in the Capitol Rotunda on Capitol Hill Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Washington. (AP Photo/Ron Edmonds)

blah blah...

The most interesting thing is Mr. Mulrooney has been picked to
speak as an euologizer at Reagan's funeral at the Cathredral:
Eulogies are planned by President Bush, former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.

Well if I remember correctly Reagan and Mulroney were friends. It's too bad that our current leaders aren't, if they were, then maybe we could resolve the softwood lumber and mad cow disputes.

There's a pipe dream if I ever saw one. The best the Consevatives can hope for is a slim majority government. Then nothing will get done for four years. Yet if the Liberals win, we get four more years of corruption and indifference from the USA. The whole situation makes me want to pound my head on the desk. Maybe I'll just vote for the NDP.

Best to stay away from the Bloc, they seem to be the equivilant of facists. They seem to want to preserve the Quebec culture by whatever means necassary, regardless of whose rights they trample.

You know, Canada's best years have always come when it's under
someone with a real Canadian name, not some francois bullshit
name that makes you guys sound like a colony of France.

Mulroney was a fairly good leader and got a bad rap in Canada because the media basically turned on him. He could have been better (who couldn't?), but the way the media fawned over Chretien and the way they shit on Mulroney by comparison is just disgraceful.

Jean Chretien was just an example of unofficial affirmative action and dumb luck at the federal level. People felt compelled to vote for him because he had a disability in the first election and Kim Campbell was stupid enough to make fun of it, and they felt compelled to vote for him in the second election because his opposition was the stark raving lunatic Stockwell Day.

Reagan, Mulroony and Ol' Maggie Thatcher were quite close IIRC. Mulroony looks the part of a leader. He also has that frontiersman, tough-guy Canadian cowboy look worth of a Gordon Lightfoot song.

I was too young to know much about Brian Mulroney, I just remember seeing him on TV with Reagan all the time. But I think he must've been a good PM since my mom hates him even more than she hates Mike Harris (my mom is a Bob Rae fanboy  ).

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

Maybe your mom hated him because he was from Quebec like Chretien
