Hell yes! Right now we have the impression that there could be a machine fleet that numbers in the tens of thousands! If your not going to help, well then, we'll need your resources in order to build up our fleets. At least now we may have some time. We can't just sit around and wait for the hammer to fall! In the short term it might not be the best idea, but if it's a decade before the machines come there would certainly be time to exploit the resouces of nations 'loyal' to the machines.

Great let's piss away our fleets fighting everyone who doesn't fall in line with our commands. Let drive wedges through known space and start wars of conquest so when the fleets that we don't even know are real yet come we still to weak to defend ourselves.
Think for a moment, even if this is true the Overseer has to fight other wars throughout the galaxy. Instead of panicing and jumping everyone who isn't has devoted let's try and get good intellgence and then make decesions.

frigidmagi, we are looking into the question of the truthfulness of the master programmer. But you have to understand, with FTL travel being what it is; the machines couldn't mount an overwhelming assault on our little piece of the galaxy for a long time. Years, perhaps even decades. The total fleet size of all the STGOD players would be negligible compared to what the Overseer could foreseeable send at us in the future. Conquest doesn't take long, when it's 10 to 1.
If all the nations that showed up to destroy the overseer decided to take out one or two "rogue" nations it might take a year at most. It's a long term thing. Why fight any war? Long term gains!
Needless to say, the chances of that happening are slow, and the will of the Unification will most likely end up becoming galactic policy. It is the power broker, or will be soon. Not only that, but any such alliance would receive full support of most citizens living in free states. Going against the Unification would be political suicide for any politician.
Of course, things could still be done to stop the Unification, or not, I couldn’t say.
Maybe that's too harsh, but it's my opinion.

I won't rush into such a thing just because you love to force me into it.

It had been two months since the Rape when the fleets assembled to leap to the tower, I think it was previously established to be three weeks away via the Shi posts... I daresay we're getting along in months.Straha wrote:Just out of curiosity, that little stop-watch showing how long it's taking for us to kill you, how long does it say it's been?SirNitram wrote:Except no one's recorded my max speed, except, I think, one or two occasions when a Fast Destroyer hit Overdrive in Known Space. Just as an aside, I'm annoyed. I carefully constructed a lie for people to uncover in the Master Programmer's spiel and everyone is leaping straight to what they know is OOCly true. It's probably nothing, but for what was trying to be festered:
Machines come to diplomatic summit, get told to sod off.
Go to Arcanists.
Arcanists tell them other powers are conspiring, name names, send Machines on way.
Machines attack, crippling a major technological power.
In essense, it looks like it would have majorly promoted the Arcanist agenda. I'm just a bit pecked that it's not come through, did I not write it well?

Except for the fact that it's a rather blatant lie. The fact that after those massive and nasty attacks you effectively disappeared is going to set off all sorts of bells and whistles in people's heads.SirNitram wrote:It had been two months since the Rape when the fleets assembled to leap to the tower, I think it was previously established to be three weeks away via the Shi posts... If I was the genocidal psycho everything thinks I am, why haven't I been attacking? Why aren't there dozens of burnt-out worlds on the probe scans where life had tried to rise up and been snuffed out?Stormbringer wrote:Except for the fact that it's a rather blatant lie. Well aside from the fact that you must stay within DS9 limits (though this isn't in game knowledge). We do acutally have a record, as you approache Sol you were most certainly picked up by system sensors before you arrived in/at the edge of the system.SirNitram wrote:Except no one's recorded my max speed, except, I think, one or two occasions when a Fast Destroyer hit Overdrive in Known Space. But you have to understand, with FTL travel being what it is; the machines couldn't mount an overwhelming assault on our little piece of the galaxy for a long time.
You should also note that it doesn't matter how fast your ships CAN go, but rather how efficient they are. Going at full speed you'll burn out your engines very fast. From most of the supposed Overseer's realm it would take years to reach our part of the galaxy.
We have captured some of your warships (at the shipyard), even in their unfinished and somewhat destroyed state plenty of information can be learned from them.
So, simply knowing how fast your destroyers are can give us an idea as to ideal cruising speed. It might not be terribly accurate, but it still gives an idea. Let's say from one point, we "calculate" it might take anywhere from 3 (max known) to 16 (lowest guessed crusing speed) years, sure there is a difference, but it's safe to assume that smart people will extrapolate and come up with the guess of a decade of unfettered travel (which is virtually impossible, considering ships of all type require fuel).
Because we all decided to hang fuzzy dice in all of our ships, and thsoe dice have brought us luck. Yup.SirNitram wrote:If I was the genocidal psycho everything thinks I am, why haven't I been attacking? So you have the cruise speed for sneaking deep into enemy territory.InnocentBystander wrote:Well aside from the fact that you must stay within DS9 limits (though this isn't in game knowledge). And you know nothing about the efficiency of my craft. With lots of examination of the captured Dreadnoughts, you might learn that. You should also note that it doesn't matter how fast your ships CAN go, but rather how efficient they are. Actually, my engines are pretty efficient fuel wise, given that they have no reaction mass..So, simply knowing how fast your destroyers are can give us an idea as to ideal cruising speed. Nitram, your fleet, a big one, traveled through the entire terran sphere. The galaxy was scoured for information on your fleets, you couldn't have been going at full tilt through the entire terran sphere, no way, no how. Your engines are only marginally more efficient than the galactic norm, them's the rules, the terran sphere is too large to go at full speed the whole way through. Besides, your ships can't move too fast or your breaking the DS9 tech level limit, when you get right down to it, your ships would have to be traveling for years, you can't escape that.
Stripes? BAH! Flaming Decals! Those work wonders!SirNitram wrote:Get Go Faster Stripes, they'll let you penetrate enemy territory faster.Straha wrote:Because we all decided to hang fuzzy dice in all of our ships, and thsoe dice have brought us luck. Yup.
