Greatest moment in SW history
Inspired by the top 10 moments in baseball history. This is a single moment, not an entire event, so while Vader's entrance to the Tantive IV is one moment -- I remember holding my breath when he walked in -- the entire fight with Darth Maul in TPM isn't. That was a tough call. It surprised me how many belonged to Vader. He's a pretty extreme guy, no wonder he steals most of his scenes!
Naturally, these are mine. Please specify if yours isn't on the list!

I love the smell of BDZ in the morning.
"If the battle cannot be won without me, then I will be brought on deck."
"If the battle cannot be won without me, then I will be brought on deck."
I wasn't old enough to remember seeing Darth Vader tell Luke that he is his father in the theaters. I only remember it from the home videos that I had. For that reason, I don't know how people reacted to it when the movie first came out. For me though, that scene struck me as probably being the greatest moment in Star Wars history.

Han: Well Your Highness, I guess this is it.
Leia: That's right.
Han: *angry* Well, don't get all mushy on me. So long, Princess.
Leia: Han!
Han: *exasperated* Yes, Your Highness.
Leia: *begging* I thought you had decided to stay.
Han: Well, the bounty hunter we ran into on Ord Mantell changed my mind.
Leia: Han, we need you.
Han: We?
Leia: Yes.
Han: Oh, what about you need?
Leia: *confused* I need? I don't know what you're talking about.
HAN: (shakes his head, fed up) You probably don't.
LEIA: And what precisely am I supposed to know?
HAN: Come on! You want me to stay because of the way you feel about me.
LEIA: Yes. You're a great help to us. You're a natural leader...
HAN: No! That's not it. Come on. Aahhh -- uh huh! Come on.
Leia: You're imagining things.
Han: Am I? Then why are you following me? Afraid I'd leave without giving you a goodbye kiss?
Leia: I'd just as soon kiss a Wookie.
Han: I can arange that! You could USE a good kiss!
Leia: That's right.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

The Emperor in ROTJ:
"Now, witness the firepower of the FULLY ARMED AND OPERATIONAL battle station!"
MY first thought: Holy shit there's just no way!
Then the Liberty gets blown away and I'm like, This can't be happening!
Then the good guys STILL pull out a victory!
The most awesome movie ending ever. Just when you think GL can't possibly drop another bombshell on you...

Another one is the brief but good father and son talk on the landing platform on Endor ending with "Its too late for me son."

Hm, that line wasn't uttered in ANH, was it? I was thinking it might be like "I have a bad feeling about this." You know, in each movie.jegs2 wrote:I like, "It's a trap!" One sees the Imperial fleet come into view and the Rebel fleet veer away from the DS2. Then that magnificant battle commenses...

That entire scene is probably one of the best out there thoguh I think the best line was:Stormbringer wrote:Luke: But father, I've got to save you.
Vader: You already have.
VADER: Luke help me take this mask off
LUKE: But you'll die.
VADER: Nothing can stop that now. just for once let me look on you with my OWN [emphasis mine] eyes.
The actual removal after that was probably the single most emotional moment and it resonates even more now because we are seeing just how far Anakin fell before this redemption.

Wow, how to decide?
My personal favorite moment was "No, Luke. I am your father!" Even now, I get goose bumps hearing it.
But I can't deny the other really good, memorable moments that happened as well.

- Han shoots Greedo first (and I have the old trilogy tape to prove it).
- Obi Wan distracts the stormies by waving his hand "These aren't the droids you're looking for."
- The exchange between Qui-Gon and Watto "What? You think are you are some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that?"
- "Use the Force, Luke!" - ghost Obi-Wan
- "So be it, Jedi." - Emperor
- ESB Leia: "I love you!"
Han: "I know."
ROTJ Han: "I love you."
Leia: "I know." - When Leia reveals her true feelings about Han in the South Passage.* (Thanks, Kelly - one of my favorite exchanges as well.)
- Leia: "Why you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy looking, nerf herder!"
Han: "Hey! Who's scruffy lookin'?"

No, it's only from ROTJ if I remember correctly, and Ackbar says it right after he sees the dozens of SDs behind the Death Star.Kelly Antilles wrote:Hm, that line wasn't uttered in ANH, was it? Ah, but Leia also screams it to Luke as she's being dragged off by Bob... er, that Imp on Bespin.Slartibartfast wrote:No, it's only from ROTJ if I remember correctly, and Ackbar says it right after he sees the dozens of SDs behind the Death Star.Kelly Antilles wrote:Hm, that line wasn't uttered in ANH, was it? Oh yeah, I think so. But it isn't anything like a trademark phrase or anything, we could say that half the movies in Hollywood say "it's a trap" at one moment or the other. Still, I voted for that moment because I remembered the sensation of awe and surprise, which also was followed by the coolest space combat sequence ever... I hope they do one at least as good, if not better, during Ep3.Kelly Antilles wrote:Ah, but Leia also screams it to Luke as she's being dragged off by Bob... er, that Imp on Bespin.Slartibartfast wrote:No, it's only from ROTJ if I remember correctly, and Ackbar says it right after he sees the dozens of SDs behind the Death Star.Kelly Antilles wrote: Hm, that line wasn't uttered in ANH, was it? I agree. It's a SPACE OPERA for God's sake. Where the fuck is the SPACE BATTLE! And we must hear "I have a bad feeling about this" yet again.Slartibartfast wrote: Oh yeah, I think so.
