1/2 UK local results in and the Fascist BNP make 0 gains

Post by Plekhanov »

BBC

Well the elections are over and the results have been coming in all night so far 82 of 166 Councils have reported and so far the BNP are unchanged at 1 seat (out of the 2134 declared) so as yet its going ok and they haven’t made any break though, though they came worryingly close.

Here’s hoping this pattern continues for the rest of the local results and for the Euro results (where the BNP pose the greatest threat) which we won’t get till Monday at the earliest.

At this rate us Euros will still be able to needle Col. Crackpot about US fundies with impunity

Seems that the Conservatives and the Lib Dems are chewing up Labor though.

Labour is the government so that is to be expected. Better people get the protesting voting out of their system now than try it next year, the Tories got similar results in 2000 yet Labour still maintained its huge majority in the 2001 general election.

The Tories haven't really done very well in he towns where it has been the traditional Lib-Dem Local protest vote that has gained whilst the Tories have gained in a few areas and against the Lib-Dems out in the country (whose platform of Quasi Race baiting doesn't work well without Islamic people about).

Whoa... from what I've read about the BNP's progress in the field of popularity, I thought that Britain was about to become a Fourth Reich.

Just looked at the BBC site and allI can say is fuck.

Heaven help us if the Lib Dem's ever get a position where they can do real damage. I'm less bothered about the Tories, but I'd still rather Labour.

No you got 30% of the vote because you are the traditional protest vote party however you were cynically targeting Muslims with the Iraq spiel and it has cost you out in the rural Lib-Dem strong holds, just look at the places where Labour isn't present - the Tories have gained substantially against you because these aren't working class areas but more affluent seaside and rural areas.

Worthing you lost 33% of your seats.
Eastbourne you lost control to the Tories.
Cheltenham became NOC because of your losses to the Tories.
Brentwood became Tory because you lost about 30% of your seats to them.

The Lib-Dems gained against Labour and lost against the Tories, the problem for the Lib-Dems is that it is the Tories they will be competing against in the general election and if these results are anything to go by the Lib-Dems won’t come out looking too bright.

The Lib-Dems always do well in local election, people vote for them to tick off the big parties and also because people see the Lib-Dems as harmless and fairly neutral( i.e. nobody has a clue what they about but they know they aren't "evil" like the Tories).

the sad thing where i live is this, The Lib Dems have been in power since the last local election, howver because it has been a Tory area for many, many years before that, they have had to clear up the mess, and this has been very hard, and the maount of cost cutting has been almost amazingly stupidly, for xample, the Lib Dems wnated to close all, thats right all, Oublic Toilets in the bay, in one of the countrys biggest tourist area...

Howver, what peeves me off even more is this, there are three town s in the bay, Brixham Painton, and Tourquay, yes for some very very very strange reason,we are counted as being part of the Tory Consticeuency three miles way! W.T.F?!

so we have had a Tex Hike, which was then Capped, by the govt for being to high, then we have several council leaders getting massive wage hikes, curtesy of the Tax Paying populice of the area... so the Lib Dems probably wont get a anouther term in charge around here, due to their anility to fowl up an already woefully sad situation, and Charles kennedy said it was nothing to do with him what his party members did!

Im in area where the vote has yet to be delared, and i expect, sadly that the BNP might just get a few seats, Here's hoping otherwise..

Well I am back to living under a Labour council, which betrays my geographic location I suppose (given Labour have only gained 2 councils which neighbour each other).

Can't say I'm overly surprised, though I expected the Lib-Dems to better after Kennedy's "Lets make this a vote on Iraq when its about whose going to running your local services and working in Europe". One policy parties have been successful once and thats with the UKIP, who stand no chance in the general election anyway.
As far as the BNP go, quite frankly they never stood a chance of doing well anywhere really. The only reason people heard so much about them was because they managed to get a few councillors into power, they promptly did fuck all, and now everyone talks about how evil they are and I know of next to no one thats actually voted for them.

We have the Tory party, Labour Party, Liberal Democrats as the three main parties.

The smaller parties are
SNP (Scottish National Party)
Plaid Cymru (Wales for the Sheep)
(Irish Parties below)
Democratic Unionists
Ulster Unionists
Sinn Fein

Then we have a couple of independents.

That is in parliament; in local elections we have the above plus
BNP (Nazi party)
UKIP UK Independence party (we hate the EU party, why they hell they get into local government I have no idea).
Greens.
Scottish Socialist (communists)
Liberals
Respect (George Galloway’s Anti-War party).
The Pensioners Party
And several dozen more tiny "parties"

To put things in perspective the UKIP has 2 seats out of 3000 (for which results are in) or so and the Greens have about 13.

UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) which has the principle aim of Britain withdrawing from the EU but which also has a more general (what I’d describe as hard right manifesto) seems to have done pretty well in the Euro election (though we can’t really tell till Monday) they also stand in council and general elections.

The Greens who are have a few council seats and will probably get a few MEPs are of course very environmental, also far left in terms of most economic and social policy, and are surprisingly anti EU (its just a “club for business” apparently).

RESPECT – which is a far left socialist/communist party which is largely an attempt by the SWP (Socialist Workers Party) to capitalise on the mass support for the Stop the War movement

Plaid Cymru – Who are Welsh Nationalists (but nice pro European and in no way racist nationalists) who are fairly strong in Wales particularly in the Welsh speaking North

The SNP (Scottish National Party) who again like Plaid Cymru are non rascist pro European nationalists and not to be confused with the BNP, they are Social Democrats but to the left of Labour on most issues and I think the 2nd biggest party in Scotland.

Lots of parties in Northern Ireland that I can’t be bothered listing as they work in radically different to the rest of UK politics and I don’t know much about them.

To see how they’ve done try this Link

You Brits don't get to make fun of us anymore! Our President may be a fundie retard, but you have actual out-of-the-closet Nazis holding elected office! Nyah nyah!

Most of them are bit players. If you want some real fun party politics, look at Israel.

Likud
Labor-Meimad
Shas
Shinui
National Religious Party
Balad
Meretz
Ha-ichud Ha-leumi
Hadash-Ta`al
One Nation
United Arab List
Yisrael Be`aliyah
Yahadut Hatorah

Note some of these happen to be umbrella organizations and these are ONLY the ones who managed to get Knesset seats (there are 120 up for grabs in the country). There are a helluvalot more parties (particularly if the umbrella parties are not counted as single parties) and it takes a professional with a keen ear for gossip to know how many total there are.[/i]
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.
