I've always considered (and I think people will back me up on this) that sort of exactitude to be an encumbrance to the story development. Playing it by ear usually works better and more intuitively, despite the occasional hiccup.Hotfoot wrote:Suggestions, criticisms, rants?

A hundred and twenty, maybe a decade or so more. In a civilization with prolong being administered as a basic right they're pushing late middle age. A prolong recpient can live to be two hundred easily enough. Though of course most are either recipient of the first or second generation treatment whereas the younger generation are second or third generation treatment recipient which means they might live even longer.Alyrium Denryle wrote:gods they are old... Besides, it doesn't seem too uncommon. Straha's princes and even Admiral Santiago all were alive and in power, that makes them far older than my people are now (though there are retired officers and the like that would be as old). Pre-war and if I remember right so was the Krytosian Emperor, at least alive back them.
So while you might or might not know, the Admiral would know and wouldn't take kindly to being lectured by a mere child, as he sees it, on events for which he was a living witness too.

For all its techno babble trek writers just can't seem to agree on one scale. I know, for a fact, that the trans-warp from ST3 is NOT the borg trans-warp. Also, as I recall, it is widely believed that in the end the project was either a fluke, or a precursor to a new line of warp drives (notice the huge difference between old and new warp engines?).Straha wrote:Actually this fits with the DS9 limit. Remember the Federation did have Trans-warp tech way back when in Star Trek III, so if we remove Scotty sabotaging the drive we've got the speed limit we now have.Hotfoot wrote:It was widely agreed upon that current FTL was faster than STGOD1 FTL. Known space is 2,000 ly in diameter and can be traversed in a week. The Milky Way, end to end, is 100,000 ly in diameter. Either known space is MUCH smaller than originally put forth, or our FTL tech is superior in speed to DS9, as previously agreed upon.InnocentBystander wrote:I'd like to disagree with that. Recall this is DS9 tech.
Either way, at the time of DS9 there is no super warp, there is no infinity warp, there is merely very fast warp which will blow out your
engines before the day is out and drain your AM reserves like its nobodies business. In voyager they messed around with a new form of super warp every season, however, all of it was artifact technology, nothing any of us could have. Could we just fudge the size of the galaxy for game play's sake?

On the subject of old people. We are still in DS9 tech level, if your people are humans, while the age cap is around 200 (that number seems right, but I could be off), but I'm almost positive they pass their prime by 100, and anything after 150 or so is basically old fogieville. Prolonged life was still in its infancy during the DS9 era.

That's about right as a I recall. But my tech base was approved (under the same terms mind you) back in the old STGOD and so I plan on retaining it as a social characteristic. I doesn't mean too much in terms of actual game balance and as I've noted no one seems to really care.InnocentBystander wrote:On the subject of old people. I mean Pablo's got a thousands of years old vampires and Alyriums mages had ages in the millenia if I recall correctly.
Yet again, I hear a call for a map. That is being worked on. I am pooling efforts with both Hotfoot and Thirdfain, we should have something operational by Sunday or shortly thereafter... (right, guys?)
In other news, I want to register what can only be described as MASSIVE FRUSTRATION with Nitram's tactics. While everything he posts is technically legitimate, I have begun to think more and more that it is just unfair. Let's look at what we have here, ok? We agree on starting fleet and planet sizes. You follow these to a T, and begin your encounter with the game by suiciding your entire fleet and declaring war on every major power. To anyone else, that would be SUICIDE. But for you? No, not so much.
You quickly expanded, moving from 12-15 to over 100 worlds capable of producing ships. You are conveniently located on the other side of the galaxy, and now it takes forever for us to find your worlds. The worlds that we do find are all insubstantial, while your main world is hidden from us, probably forever, unless we hack your Programmers, something we just do not have the technology to do. Meanwhile, you are continuing to crank out ships at an UNGODLY rate. In a matter of 2, maybe 3 months, you have created several fleets. You even have brand new, fully functional DREADNAUGHTS. You are putting up a fight against a coalition of maybe a dozen nations. The fact that you are able to successfully defend in a 12-on-1 situation to ANY capacity is just rediculous.
I am reminded of our probelms with the Arcanists, where Aly's justifications were always "I can cuz I have uber-mages." In this case, your justification is always "I can, because I have super-efficient, super-intelligent evil machines." Its unbalancing the game and its just unfair. You should have been dead long ago. We can either continue to attack you, diverting all of our efforts into a boring and diplomatically uniteresting struggle. OR we can ignore you (something many of us CANNOT do for in-character reasons), in which case you would continue to grow at this rate until your fleets were large enough and powerful enough to destroy all of us in a you-vs-everyone battle.
I know this is a lot to spit out in one tirade, but its starting to really get on my nerves. It should be obvious to all of us by this point that you have created a race with capabilities far exceeding the capabilities of any one of our races. And you cannot justify your technological/military/industrial superiority by citing your evil robot nature... that didn't work with Aly, and it shouldnt work for you. You being inherently better than any one of us is unfair. To be able to go toe-to-toe with all of us at the same time, through your massive military-industrial complex and your elusive nature, is just rediculous.
Wow, I ranted a lot more than I thought I would here. But, uh.... Am I the only one who feels this way? If so, I willrespectfully withdraw my comments and continue the hunt. If not, we need to do something. Now.

If 'Around a hundred sites, mostly observation stations or towers still under construction' is '100 worlds building warships' and 'functional dreadnoughts' includes things that can barely fight for ten minutes, I suppose you're right. The Overseer is overstating itself. That's kind of what I'm reduced to. I was even fucking nice and gave the powers a map.
I'm not exactly happy here either. I've been waiting with my thumb up my ass for you lot to actually finish things as you ranted and raved you would, waaaaay back after the Rape. And after you lot FINALLY finish off the Overseer, I get to start over as a new, baseline power, while everyone else has been expanding.
Whee.

What fueled that rant was seeing your ship count in the battle with Rogue.
If you want to start over baseline, throw us a bone. Have one of our scouts actually find your homeworld and then let us end this.
And if you want to keep fighting, that's fine too. But if that is the case, keep my previous rant in mind.
I don't mean to incriminate you here, I just dont want an out of control situation, you know?
Thats a whole lot for someone who lost everything a month ago. And in terms of you giving us the map, you told us you were everywhere. Thousands of dots, or something like that. I would hardly call that a dead giveaway. Maybe I went a bit overboard in my ranting and raving there, but for serious.... how many worlds do you have? How many of the dots you showed us actually have your guys there? And at this rate, how long will it take for us to get to your homeworld? We keep looking, and we just keep finding outpost after outpost. When do we hit the core worlds? Your lack of death isnt through lack of trying, its just that the distances are so big and you are so spread out that this is taking longer than ANY of us would like.2 Operational Dreadnoughts(One without shielding or fusion cannons)

Everything but the BB and DN's are from my existing forces. And those ships, while capable of fighting back, can't go out of system yet.
ALl my systems are on the map. The capital is the farthest one; as probes go deeper, they'll find the factory worlds of my original 12, and finally the capital. And in terms of you giving us the map, you told us you were

Is it somehow beyond consideration that the Overseer would spread towards human space, and thus the first ones would be outposts? No, of course not. There's just a fortress world unlike any other that was overlooked for centuries. Ugh.
They'll find it once they actually do something besides sit around and endlessly debate. I'm starting to wonder if I want to bother, this is frankly boring as hell. I invent vast webs of deceit which get overlooked conveniently, and then we see four pages of bickering in debating socieities.. OK. Now I am starting to understand the situation that we are in. Yeah, it kinda sucks from all sides. You arent getting your war and eventual glorious defeat. We arent getting ANYWHERE, because of all the maneuvering to keep advantage is bogging down the game. Your deceit isnt going anywhere probably because after the rape, everyone is kinda fed up with these damn mahcines both in-game and OOC, so we just arent listening... much. I did take out the Arcanists, right?
I guess I will just continue on my present course. In about a week, I have to go offline for about a month. Since I am contractually obliged to be the hammer against you, I will just do some fast and furious moves (within reason, of course), and we can try to get this whole thing wrapped up soon. Best for all of us, neh?

The problem with vast webs of deciet is, it's a game. Not everyone cares about all your webs of deciet every last minute of the game. Not every one is going to play your game, there are other threads in this after all and not all of them center on you.SirNitram wrote:They'll find it once they actually do something besides sit around and endlessly debate. As for getting people moving, I'm trying whatever I can. But your attempts at propoganda have mostly encouraged people to do nothing and call it probing.
If you really want to get on with it, give us a bit better clue. Because right now you're saying you're too far away and that we've got no idea how to find you. That's reasonable enough the way I see it. But if you also want this over with give us a way to do it that isn't arbitrary as hell and/or trading on OOC knowledge.SirNitram wrote:I'm just pissed I'm stuck with no control whatsoever.I don't mean to incriminate you here, I just dont want an out of control situation, you know?

What I meant is that the deceit is simply ignored and people come to the right answer anyways. How lucky of them to be ever increasingly skeptic despite increasing evidence.
Yea, giving you a map straight to my place is such a way to slow things down.As for getting people moving, I'm trying whatever I can. But your attempts at propoganda have mostly encouraged people to do nothing and call it probing.

Sorry, but with the exception of Straha most of us have other things to do with. We can't spend all our time hunting down you.anks for the revelation. I had, despite reading the entire game thread, not noticed the other threads.
The simple fact is that you've outsubtled yourself or something because I don't see what of this grand web of deception I'm supposed to be reacting to. Right now I see the Machines have fought a few big fights and show little signs of being able to strike again. That's In Game. What I meant is that the deceit is simply ignored and people come to the right answer anyways. How lucky of them to be ever increasingly skeptic despite increasing evidence.
And the evidence? What evidence exactly?
Unless it has a you are here, and a kill Overseer here on it, it's going to take time. Because your claimed what several hundred systems at least. It takes time to probe all that and most people aren't exactly in a big hurry with out any machine stirring up trouble.Yea, giving you a map straight to my place is such a way to slow things down.
I can think of any number of IC reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that claiming at least on a map, as many systems as you do makes it hard to probe and strike at all of them.No idea how to find me? Send probes along the fucking coordinates on the map. The capital is there. I put it there, despite no IC reason, simply to finish this up.
