So what is this, just more hot air from Jabba or the truth?

It was in the news months before 60 Minutes broke the story, but noone paid attention. It was the photographs that made the story big. I suppose that if he had film, he figured, "Well it's in the news but noone cares, so it's not big enough to warrant me publicizing the videos."

It's understandable.

Yeah. I think the story made the papers in January but no photos existed so noone paid much attention. They did the old, "American's would never do that, it can't be true" thing and ignored it.

In the sort of vague, more rumor than subitantiated way. There have been lots of allegations but until the pictures were releases there was no reason to give them much credence.

No, I don't think you're correct, I check BBC News and Reuters daily and I don't remember them picking up anything like that.

Moore did a terrible thing by not making the information public as soon has he had it. He could have stopped further abuse of Iraqi detainees by US soldiers.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

But the matter is, if no one believes you, what use is it? You've tarnished your reputation, and even if you're eventually vindicated, the people aren't gonna like you any better. The masses are emotional like that...

"The stuff with the detainees in my movie is even more shocking than what we saw in that prison because it happens outdoors and is more commonplace,'' Moore said.
From the description in the article, the only 'shocking' thing would be the fondling of a prisoner's gentials through a blanket. Placing hoods on them before transporting them away isn't shocking even if the soldiers were being jerks by laughing and taking pictures while doing it.

This hardly compares to siccing dogs on prisoners and Lynndie England acting out some sick S&M fantasy.

Unless there's more to the footage than what's described in the article, I don't think his releasing it early would have made a bit of difference.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

Maybe, maybe not given who he is. But more to the point, what of other places he and the media have not identified yet? I dont think it would have mattered.
