Half of them were burned to cinders by the Monacorans.consequences wrote:"So the Overseer is dead, and its fleet is inactive. Fifth Fleet, Gamma-3927, two weeks after the battle
Two fleet tugs were making preparations to haul the stricken Curie to Orodan as the other surviving ships formed up for departure. The Antares had been shot to hell, with most of her superstructure forward of Torpedo Room 2 essentially gone. The rear 3/4 of the ship were situated in the forward hangar of the Intrepid. [Might as well make use of it...]
Salvage teams were going through the wreckage of the Overseer base now, finishing up after grabbing everything useful that they could find. Computer cores in particular were carefully gathered and packed so as to avoid damage. All the Machines had shut down suddenly, and with word of the Krell's destruction of the Overseer, the reason was now clear. It seemed that the Krell had destroyed the Overseer at the moment that the defenses on the tower suddenly stopped working. It was hoped that the sudden shutdown had not allowed time for the Programmers to initiate memory wipes on themselves.
The shipyards, especially the Ouster designed wombs, were extensively analyzed and all that could be carried away was taken. The massive hulk of the uncompleted dreadnought had been left alone after it became apparent that it was completely shut down, and it would also be towed back to Nashtari territory.
The salvage teams completed their work and loaded everything they could onto their great barges and bulk freighters. Only one thing left. This base would not be getting back up again.
The battleships of the fleet went methodically over everything their guns could reach, wrecking the shipyards and the gutted destroyers, and reducing every Machine installation on the surface to rubble, effectively sealing the lower levels that they couldn't blast into. Soon, nothing was left but craters and twisted metal.
The tugs signaled that they were ready to jump, and the relatively unarmed salvage and cargo craft formed up within the protective bubble of the fleet before they all left the dead and lifeless system behind them.
Edit: Remembered some certain things that were present in the system, just making sure that I specifically mentioned their salvage.
Edit 2: Yeah, if I can't have it no one else will either.

Grand Admiral Stark leaned back in his chair, watching as his fleet entered Manticoran orbit smoothly and efficiently. Within moments, they came under simulated missile fire from the surface, but the vanguard's point-defenses intercepted every missile with ease, and launched a swarm in return, while the battlecruisers and his ship sliced the orbital defense stations apart with long range graser fire. His repeater displays showed zero friendly casualties. He pressed a com stud on his arm-rest, opening a channel to the main bridge. "Captain Maus, update please." Maus's voice was optismistic. "Very good sir. We took out more than half of the planet-side missile bases in 2 salvos, and the defensive platforms are almost finished. Cassandra took some minor damage to her sidewalls, but nothing to worry about. However, sir, we failed to take out the long-range com relays as fast as I would have liked. We can be expecting reinforcements in a few minutes." Stark nodded to himself, then cut the channel. "Destroyer Groups One and Two, cover the Cassandra and Orion. Get into defensive positions. We're gonna be under attack soon from the 2nd Squadron. Out." Soon, however, was an understatement. The moment he cut the channel, the bridge alarms screeched in warning as the entire 2nd ExBatRon warped in. Within seconds, thousands of missiles were boiling out from both sides. Stark winced as he watched Cassandra and Orion take heavy hits on their sidewalls. "Group One and Two, you were to be in position to cover Cassandra and Orion. Explain," said Stark cooly into the com. A burst of static erupted, and a shaky voice answered. "Sir, there was..no excuse. We reacted too slowly and let the Cassandra and Orion out in the open. My apologies." Stark sighed. "Alright, lets try that manuver again." He couldn't fault them, of course. This was probably the first time the two destroyer groups worked in such close tandem, and miscommunication was a given for first-timers. Which was the purpose of war-games in the first place, he reminded himself. "2nd Squadron, reset your position. Ground units, reset. We're trying this until we get it right."

Our sensor nets that we deployed in the former Overseer territory indicate the beginnings of a mobilization into that space. Preliminary inquiries have revealed to us a lack of information on your part. We are not abandoning these holdings. The main bulk of our military has turned back to known space to resupply and repair from the significant combat damage sustained in the battles WE FOUGHT. Salvage crews are heading into machine space now to claim what is ours. We are also leaving behind a small taskforce to protect these assets from scavengers. The right of the kill is ours, and we will defend it.
If your mission is to ascertain the destruction of the Overseer, that is easily taken care of. Enclosed with this transmission are the readouts of all the scans we have conducted of the downed machines since the destruction of the Overseer. These can be easily corroborated by comparing them to those scans made by Nashtar. If even that is not enough for you, feel free to conduct your own scans, but we warn you to stay clear of the areas designated for Combine salvage. Remember, the standard business of the Combine is defence from piracy, and any incursion into our holdings will be seen as such, regardless of the banner the ships fly.
I send this to avoid any unfortunate misunderstandings that may occur in the future. Act wisely and there will be no trouble. The death of the Overseer should be a cause for joy, not continued strife. Diama out.

Fifth Fleet returned to its home port after the most combat-intensive deployment in the history of the Republic Space Command. They had been on the go since the Battle of Earth, and had not stopped until the Machine menace was ended. The proud ships coming back were by far the worse for wear compared to what they had been leaving. The most heavily damaged ships set off for Orodan and the shipyards, while the flag officers and the captains of the heavy ships went by shuttle to Nashtar for debriefing by Admiral Blessinger.
The ships still combat-capable resumed their posts around the planet, and would rotate in for their more minor repairs over the coming weeks. The salvage ships escorted in made straight for the Oro system, but did not approach either of the major planets; no one wanted to risk the disaster that would surely follow should the Machines suddenly awake and escape on a major planet. Instead, the space stations ordered so long ago by the Psilons and never picked up or paid for were pressed into use as research platforms in the outer edges of the system, under close guard from ships of Second Fleet. Analysts from Nashtar Republic Intelligence swarmed over the captured equipment, and the delicate process of retrieving information from the captured computer cores began on a station all to its own, away from the hardware.

Countess Tyrel stretched sleepily and hit the com stud on her arm-rest. "Gunnery, Ma'am," answered a crisp voice. Holding back a yawn, Tyrel spoke into the mic. "Power down the weapons, but keep the point-defense online. We don't want to look threatening to the Earthers."

Ravenlock Space
Ravenlock Sector
Aequitas
The first stop for the Veithans was a bit of void just outside several systems of the Ravenlock sector. They had been cleared through relatively quickly, and if they could have but heard the chatter between civilian pilots, they might have gotten the impression that they were being favored by the RTC. As it was, it was little more than a mildly annoying pit stop before the end of the road, Aequitas.
Aequitas was the second most populated system in the Ravenlock Sector, surpassed only by Corvus itself. As it one of the few terra-compatible planets within dozens of light years, the sight greeting the Veithan sensors on arrival should come as little surprise. Orbital and deep space colony cylinders lit up the void with navigational beacons. Traffic within the system created smaller points of light, but were far more numerous.
Beyond the ebb and flow of interplanetary traffic, swirling around the riverbeds of stations and skyhooks, lay the moons and, ultimately, the lonely pale blue dot, Aequitas. Nearly the entire surface, with exceptions for large stretches of ocean, was covered in a tremendous city, with structures reaching skyward, some seeming as high as the edge of the atmosphere, as though someone had caught a skyhook and had decided to build down, a ferrous stalactite anchored to the star littered void.
Captain Lucretia Johnston was waiting with elements of the second battlegroup of Beta Fleet at the designated entry vector. Her duties in this show were largely as the offical greeter and guide to the system, but that was all right by her. She enjoyed the opprotunity to meet the Veithans, and hopefully repair any damage contact with Radim might have caused. Though, since he was confined to Ark Sector and the hunt for the Machines, that duty would be mercifully light.
"Welcome to the Aequitas System, VDS Yulai. This is Captain Lucretia Johnston, Beta Fleet. We hope your journey was mild and uneventful, and hope that your stay here will be informative and enjoyable. The navigational beacons in the system will guide you to the Diplomatic Station. Your Escort is welcome to join us at the military complex, and your crews will be offered use of our base recreational facilities during the course of the summit."
For their accomodations, the Veithans would be staying in the diplomatic station, in the Veithan sector. Demonstrations would be taking place both at the station as well as other locations as need required. Transportation to the various locations would be handled by the Consortium, allowing the Veithan crews time to relax and socialize within the system, with some obvious restrictions.
Meanwhile, the SENTINEL Deployment Ship Pigpen had been unavoidably delayed, but the Veithans didn’t need to know about that right now.

Edge of the Hudson System
A ship dropped gracefully into realspace at the edge of the Hudson System, it was a Baeloaren light cruiser, the Entrepreneur. It hesitated only a moment, scanning the system, making sure it had the right co ordinance.
<<This is the Commonwealth Cruiser, Entrepreneur to Eketrina Command, we would like to request a brief meeting to discuss matters of importance, awaiting clearance.>>

Veithan Empire
Vethia III
The Director nodded as he was asked to wait. The prince was a very interesting individual, and apparently the Grand Empire was a very interesting place. He wasn’t sure exactly what was going on in the silent moments that followed, but he assumed it was some sort of Crescend-style neural link with the dataport, maybe even with communications back home involved. Fascinating stuff, but not anything to waste time on at the moment, there were more important things to deal with.
“Thank you, very much. Signing it on Veitha would be excellent,” ~And if we’re lucky,~ he thought, ~this won’t be another historic event like the Grand Ball of Terra was,~ The Director smiled. “Thank you again for your time. My staff and I will start on the formal wording and such right away.”

The message was received and understood. The gun pods remained closed, the shields remained off. The ship moved quickly to the designated location and launched a small unarmed shuttlecraft; it was quickly met by Hajr escorts and headed to the Ektrina's embassy section.Thirdfain wrote:<< Baelorean Vessel. The shuttle docked, the Baeloaren Diplomat and his escort, an Order Police Officer, went through a long scanning process, making assurances that neither alien was armed or carried dangerous pathogens. Once completed the two were escorted to the hall of the Speaker.

Eketrina
Hudson System
Ouster Occupation Zone, Rimwards Edge of Known Space
The chamber in which the Speaker entertained such diplomatic overtures was spacious and beautiful- as most of her rooms were, it had one transparent wall looking out over the Cluster- this one, set in the grav-wheel where the Hajr kept it's few embassies, looked out over Eketrina's trading docks, giving a truly impressive and open view of a hundred transports being unloaded, reloaded, and sent on their way. The queues stretched out into the darkness for over an AU, strings of jewels against the black velvet of space.
The Speaker was dressed simply, in the Hajr's uniform of dark shipsuit and vest, though the flanks of her skinsuit were truly resplendent with slashes of colorful fabric- a sign of high rank.
Motionless, six figures in grey Stratiotoi armor stood around the room. The Baelorean started- for a second, he had thought them mere statues.
"Welcome to Eketrina. I am the Speaker of the Hajr, harbinger of the Diaspora and Chosen of the Clusters. By what names do you call yourself, and what have you come so far to say?"

The short Baeloaren took a brief moment to take in the spectacle that was the Hall, and then answered. "Warm greetings to you speaker! My name is Greel Naatphoon, chosen diplomat of the Homeworld Senate. Please, pay no mind to my escort! I will not waste your time, Speaker. My business is trade, we have carefully observed the known galaxy since our introduction to it not long ago. We have seen great nations fall, great fleets do battle among the stars, and it has worried us greatly. I come in the hopes that we might benefit from each other's knowledge. The engines that push your fleets, Kincaid drives, you call them? We have been very impressed by these, especially after utilizing them in the construction of our part of the great probe fleet which even now continues to scour the worlds’ of this galaxy, searching for potential threats, and useful planets. The Commonwealth would be very willing to trade its own technological secrets with you, in exchange for knowledge of these Kincaid engines. We have much to offer in exchange, if you would entertain such a proposal." The Order Police Officer stood off to the side of the diplomat, her body rigid, yet her head slowly turned back and forth, probing the room, carefully recording the words of the Speaker.Thirdfain wrote:Eketrina

"Indeed, Bondman Greel? You would propose a trade of technological secrets? Indeed, few in Fallow Space understand grid interaction or hyperspace/realspace verge physics..."
She smiled at his blank expression.
"The technology behind the Kincaid Drive is valuable. The shoddy civilian designs we gave to the Unification hardly hint at some of the applications. What would you offer us, then, for this exchange?"

"Certainly, her Highness is currently on planet. You may send over a shuttle with a delegation or we might be able to prevail upon the Monacorans to lend us some space to meet planetside. Which ever you desire."

"Karl, I have just one last point. You know we've currently got most of the PIR Navy effectively impounded right now. I'm getting hammered by the opposition over just the prospect of that kind of prize money! Is there are point to bringing them over to our service?"
"I'd buy them in for now, they're decent ships if dated. Right now we need to get them back out there are operating for system security if nothing else. Once we get that stabilized, I don't expect it to be worth keeping them in service. The logisitical base alone, just isn't there for long term service under our colors. I'd say we surplus them off the same as we wound up doing with the last of the FS 92 frigates."
"If you'll endores it, I'll see what I can manage."

Greel turned to the Order Officer, "May I begin?" he asked respectfully.Thirdfain wrote:"Indeed, Bondman Greel? You would propose a trade of technological secrets? Indeed, few in Fallow Space understand grid interaction or hyperspace/realspace verge physics..."
She smiled at his blank expression.
"The technology behind the Kincaid Drive is valuable. The shoddy civilian designs we gave to the Unification hardly hint at some of the applications. What would you offer us, then, for this exchange?"
A small hologram projector activated on the front of the Officer's helmet, it displayed a wide variety of demographics, certainly not a national secret, indeed, and it was all public information.
"I must admit," Greel noted, "I've had little time to research this, but I believe you might be interested in certain luxury goods; exotic animals, plants, fruits and vegetables from all corners of the Commonwealth, such things never before seen in the Terran Sphere!" the hologram showed images of a number of herd animals and other more species, then came various fruits and vegetables, some mundane looking, some quite exotic. On the few habitable worlds within the Commonwealth there was a great deal of land available to grow such creatures, all engineered to be breed and sold with peak efficiency, profit was key.
"We would also," he continued, "be willing to part with a small portion of the rare metals which we mine and any other more common ores you might be interested for, some years." The hologram displayed the offer, during the speech the diplomat made the Order Officer had changed a number of the figures, Iridium was selected as a common ore, and red meat animals too were highlighted to be previewed.
At the end of his little speech the offer was as such, herd grown meats, especially red meat types, fruits and similar exotic items in sizeable quantities, nothing that the Baeloaren economy couldn't handle without breaking a sweat, plus 3% of it's total mined Iridium for two years and 1% of other various rare metals.
Greel turned back to look at the hologram being displayed, he noticed the changes immediately and began to say something, but he thought better of it, "Is this an acceptable trade?" he asked the Speaker, his words almost failed, he had almost spoke against the Order. . .

My friend, I have a new set of instructions. We are looking to expand our fleet size using the material gained from the Overseer mission. I know that this might seem sudden, coming right off the completion of our last fleet expansion, but now we have more than enough resources. Contact Hephaestus and our new secondary construction client. Put the following ships into production:
2 Titans, CNS Sparta 5 Defender and CNS Sparta 6 Defender
10 Lances
13 Walls
10 Carriers
100 Blue Collars
80 Harleys
40 Missile Frigates
See to it personally. Leave the ships I marked for you before in Overseer territory to protect our investment there. Send the rest home. I hear rumors of unrest. I plan on meeting with Faran tomorrow to discuss those rumors. Until then, we have to assume the worst.

WSN Sitraria
Silent class Scout Frigate
Edean System. Lower magnetosphere of local gas giant
"Sir, they have activated their active sensor network. With our stealth at full power we have a fair chance of not being detected within the magnetosphere for as long as we remain motionless. I don't think that the increased fighter activity we have detected is a severe danger: the local magnetic interference is going to be a problem for anybody attempting to locate us and it will esentially blind most fighter-mounted sensors. I am concerned about the heavy hitters, however. Ouster sensors are better than expected, it would seem, and a capital ship might detect something odd in this area" reported the sensors officer.
"Thank you, lieutenant. Return to your station. For the next hours, we are like a rock. No impulse. No powering weapons until we have been detected. No active sensors. No-thing." ordered the captain while considering his options.
His ship was a small frigate, barely 450 meters in length. It was designed for speed and stealth not for combat. An Ouster frigate was the only thing between his ship and the void... But even with an alpha strike, his frigate had a very slim chance against the Ouster vessel. His only true weapon were a capital-grade spinal mounted graser and a pair of point defense lasers and while some scout frigates had been modified to externally mount hunter-killer torpedoes, his hadn't. Running away was his best option and he hoped that before the end of the day the Ousters would stop their search.
"They will" said Porelat entering the bridge.
"Will they? How do you know?" asked the captain to the Ethereal who the Council had appointed as his XO during the mission. Unlike some of his kind Sizartrax didn't believe the Ethereals to be gods or messengers from the heaves. Not for a split second. He even found them ocasionally irritating with their paternalistic attitude. However, sometimes they knew things unknown to everybody else and it was useful to listen.
"They are bored. They are warriors, but they have been here for whole months. Their overzealousness is a result of their boredom, but if they don't find something soon, they will lost interest. They lack patience. They are like children who need new toys to be happy. And that is what makes them so dangerous." said the Ethereal.
"I hope that you are right. Otherwise, we are going to be stranded here for a long time!" snapped the annoyed Sixtra. The last thing he needed was their metaphysical crap for the remainder of the mission.

-ooc- true dat, Ouster sensors are slightly better than known space normal. Oh, and due to our weaker shields, your craft could doubtless destroy the Hajr frigate, assuming it got the opening alpha strike spot-on. Of course, after that, it would come down to a maneuvering duel, where the Ouster frigate would probably win.Ouster sensors are better than expected, it would seem, and a capital ship might detect something odd in this area" reported the sensors officer.
Edean System
Ouster Occupation Zone, Former Covenant of God Territory
An hour passed, and then another. Fighter patrols swept the system's reaches, squadrons of fast bombers making wide, looping trajectories out ot the Oort cloud and back. Escort Frigates patrolled in combat formation, their point-defense computers slaved to the capital ships they protected. Small groups of faster raiding frigates combed the system, wathing for possible incursions by the enemy.
Three hours after the Pandemonium's Freecast, the system was still abuzz with activity.

Earth, Monocoran space
The HMS Aurora brought her impeller wedge up, accelerating to a lesuirely cruise towards earth. Behind her, a pair of long-range LACs exited hyper, and tailed the Aurora, scanners probing space for signs of any threat. Minutes later, the Aurora entered Earth orbit, and opened a channel.

Outer Ix'agal System.
Nashtar occupation Zone, Former Covenant of God Territory.
Three WSN frigates dropped out of warp in the outer system and continued their advance towards the planet Ix'agal through realspace. There was no attempt to hide their presence. All the reports pointed that the system was in convulsion and any unidentified ship trying to sneak into it would most likely end blasted to atoms.
The Council had decided that some force was to be showed there and finally the force dispatched had been two Grabia class frigates of solid built and a troop transport. When they entered sensor range, a message was sent.
From: WSN Authorities.
To: Local Nashtar Republic occupation authorities.
Re: Diplomatic relations.
We, the Council of Races of the White Sun Confederation, consider that the opening of diplomatic relations with you, the Nashtar Republic, will be most beneficial for both you and us. Discussion of subjects of the uppermost importance among our governments is in order. We will wait your answer.
