Whose fans did Seirra **** the worst?

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

well JMS and David Drake are both very open about how much they detest their relationship with a "Computer company they can't name due to legal reasons" which took their intellectual property, and did nothing with it, and will not allow anyone else to do anything with it, despite the fact that the company only exists now as a holding company."

so was it Drake with "Battlestations" & "Hammer's Slammers" wargame sims

or

JMS with B5 starfury sim

or

someone else's fans.

Sierra won't let go of B5? That's completely retarded. And JMS can't do anything about it? So we'll never see a Starfury sim. Well fuck that.

I thought Sierra was finished anyway.

Where's my Liesure Suit Larry?

In this age of GTA, LSL needs to come into the 21st century.

When Into the Fire was cancelled, a fan-made project began...

As for IP, they probably paid a pretty penny for it so they'll want to recoup their investment.
I thought Sierra was finished anyway.
No, but their heyday is long past (IMHO, coinciding when the Williams sold the company).

If it ain't Larry Laffer, then it just ain't Leisure Suit Larry. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Other than Leisure Suit Larry, the Sierra game I want the most is another Gabriel Knight game. Unfortunately the writer/designer of the series said she was finished with it after the third one came out. Still, a movie wouldn't be a bad idea.
Clever and witty signature to be inserted here, just as soon as I think of one.

Tribes fans with Aerial Assault. Now they're redeeming themselves with Vengance, but man, that one was a blow to the balls. Not only was it taking a PC franchise and making it a console-/only/ game, but they made it..really...bad.

Damn, kinda sucks they discontinued QFG. Granted the story was pretty much over, but now it's pretty hard to find a copy of them, aside from used. Which is a pain in the ass. They didn't even keep any support stuff anywhere on their site.

Same with Space Quest. Yes, they're old, but still great.

We Babylon 5 fans have been reamed horribly, but to be honest I think those who have been most comprehensively fucked are fans of any of the "Quest" games, be it Police, Space or ...for Glory.

If you happen to be both a B5 and a Space Quest fan it's like the sierra execs are taking turns.

Yes, but again, this was when Sierra was own by the Williams' family and were comitted to making good games internally (and with wholly-owned subsidiaries).

Police Quest? Remember it sort of, but not really... Sounds cool though. Any info?

And I wish there was some product support still with those games (GOD DAMN YOU ERROR 52, GOD DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!). Granted there are some "quick fixes" you can apply, but a real patch would've been nice (having to use MoSlo to play the damn game just so I can get an all important Ritual was really out of the way).

As for IP, they probably paid a pretty penny for it so they'll want to recoup their investment.
Companies in general will always hold dearly onto IP and never let it go unless they have to.

Case in point: Atari (Infogrames) inherited the IP to Total Annihilation when they bought up GT Interactive, and reportedly wanted several million dollars for it as recently as a couple of years ago... for a game made in 1997 which would need to be completely remade in order to approach anything near that level of value.

I really think this is less a "could make money for us" line of thought as it is a "hey we can tell our suckers/stockholders that we have all this IP worth so many millions of dollars and look really good to them!", with perhaps a little "screw everyone else in the business as much as we can" thrown in.
