Now if game mechanics counted all that observation might matter. But they don't.Lex wrote:OK but in XWA(games are half-canon) at least, the two globes definitly are the shield gens, and if they are destroyed shields are down. There's no evidence in the film to prove me otherwise. Just in the books i guess. or in the logic.
Games are half-canon due to plot developments, NOT due to technical implications.Lex wrote:OK but in XWA(games are half-canon) at least, the two globes definitly are the shield gens, and if they are destroyed shields are down. When a game says, as part of it's story, that x happened and y was involved, we're inclined to accept it.
When a game says that the sensor globes on top of a ISD are actually shield globes, it's part of game mechanics and thus disregarded.

Lex, there's nothing new at all you can argue for the tower globes being shield generators/projectors. IIRC, this is far from the first time that you have both argued for them being shield generators and have been told that they are not. Your evidence is even the same as before.
Just accept that they're not, the games and assorted EU books are wrong, and stop tredging up old, long settled issues.

We're also still working on the sequence where Mad Max crashes his A-wing into Vader's ship and causes the star destroyer to lose control and crash into the Deathstar. The penetration shot with the mushroom-cloud explosion we've had for some time, and we've got the shot where the ship's been hit and is starting to heel over. A very large explosion is coming out of the bridge area and it's causing several others to go as well; and one of the big radar domes up on top has been blown away, and that's spewing flames. It's pretty spectacular. Between that sort of closeup of the bridge section and the long-shot of the surface, we need two more cuts of the ship continuing to heel over and dropping towards the Deathstar like an arrow. We've shot a number of elements on those - explosions and things that have to be projected onto the miniatures - and so they're pretty much ready to go. Don Dow will be shooting those tomorrow.

You know I love how TFNers say "well that's not official, the books later are blah blah blah" and turn right around and eat up whatever comes out of Hyperspace, even though that certainly would've fit the same catagory if ROTJ was being made today.

I don't recall talking about that before.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Lex, there's nothing new at all you can argue for the tower globes being shield generators/projectors. One must also remember that in some of the video games (e.g., TIE Fighter), it is possible to secure power to one's engines and coast to a halt while in space. Because of the particular requirements of the video game media, technical details within it are of dubious value at best; surely one would never be so fatuous as to argue that as there is nothing to the contrary in the films, Dash Rendar must be capable of sustaining numerous blastershot wounds without losing any mobility, would one?

You seem to also have skipped over the fact that that very issue was being addressed on every page since the second page of this thread.Barbatis wrote:oops thanks I skipped over that.
