Simple question:

Whom do you believe the agressor in the Vietnam war was?

Uhhh.....correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the United States invade Vietnam? If I'm right, doesn't that mean the United States was the aggressor?

Consider yourself corrected. The United States did not invade Vietnam.

No, the North Vietnamese invaded South Vietnam multiple times and were ultimately successful in the end.

No. She was a South Vietnamese whore, and not surprisingly they were in South Vietnam at the time.

And this invalidates my claim that the United States invaded Vietnam how?

no. US forces were initially deployed to defend South Vietnam from North Vietnamese invasion at the request of South Vietnam. This was further expedited by some trumped up "attack" on the US Navy by North Vietnamese gunboats.

not at first. President Johnson really kept the lid on offensive operations at first, but you can't win a war on defense. Still, later on itnto the war there were tremendous restrcitions on what targets in the north could be attacked. Most cities went completely untouched. Then Nixon took over, bombed the shit out of northern cities and even invaded Cambodia and Laos to chase down Viet Cong.

Even if we did, dumbass, counteroffensives do not make their initiator aggressors. We don't say that the Allies were the aggressors in WWII, nor do we say that the American-UN forces were the aggressors in Korea.

Are you intentionally being obtuse?

Now, the invasions of Cambodia and Laos were unquestionably aggressive, but that does not mean the US started the Vietnam war.

You did, with your LA whore comment.

The war in Vietnam itself wasn't really an act of US aggression, but some of the stuff outside of Vietnam was, as Hemlock pointed out.

So the United States were not the initial aggressors, but they did invade North Vietnam. Oh well I was half right.

a counter offensive is NOT an invasion. Thats akin to calling the UK agressors for launching an offensive into Germany in 1944.

The communist incursions caused the whole thing, if I'm not mistaken. Tonkin Gulf was just the US's way to get itself on the playground.

It's so touchy an issue because so many ignorant people bitterly critical of the Vietnam War atempt to make it out as an American attempt to stamp poor little North Vietnam needlessly under Uncle Sam's boot.

We made many mistakes and killed many innocent people in Vietnam, but we never fired the first shot.
