Congress passes huge anti-indecency fines 99-1

Post by Darth Wong »

By a 99-1 vote, Congress has approved huge new fines for on-air indecency, including the baring of a breast or the utterance of foul language. Welcome to the 19th century.

You know, there's a line between 'conservative' and 'regressive'. From the looks of it, quite a few walked across the line.

Well, the senate.gov hasn't updated yet, so they don't have the record on who voted against it yet.

So did it pass the House, or just the Senate?

Senate.gov has a list of recent activity. One is an amendment to a bill (S.2400) regarding indecency on air. The funny thing is, the bill it's being amended to, S.2400, is a defense budget bill:

"An original bill to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2005 for military activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction, and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe personnel strengths for such fiscal year for the Armed Services, and for other purposes."

Scummy governmental practices. What a shock.

oh, oh, oh, not only that, but S.2400 has a few other amendments to it as well:

"To require certain dietary supplement manufacturers to report certain serious adverse events."

"To require a protocol on media coverage of the return to the United States of the remains of members of the Armed Forces who die overseas."

"To provide for additional factors in indecency penalties issued by the Federal Communications Commission."

"To express the sense of the Senate concerning legislation requiring reports of serious adverse events related to dietary supplements and over-the-counter drugs."

lmfao..

Ah, of course. Piggy back it on something that no one in their right mind would vote against. Beautie.

I'm not so sure about line-vetos but I'd sure as hell support an amendment banning riders.

You know, it's things like this that make me want to change my mind about who to vote for. I mean, originally, I was going with the 'lesser of two evils' ballot, but recently changed my mind seeing as how Kerry's awful hesitant to explain to people exactly what type of evil he is. I've considered throwing the futile 3rd. party vote just as a sign of disgust with both parties, but now I'm rethinking that. Maybe I should vote for Bush, and hope he does something so supremely stupid over the next four years that *everyone* will finally get the point and drum him out of office.

Nah, I prefer to be arrogant and honest when it comes to politics.
