Used to play that years ago. Was loads of fun.

Echo or Robgea. If you need stuff I could hook you up with some junk.

They change anything after turning KLK to Djelibeybi?

Very BIG m.u.d., has the entire city of Ankh-Morpork (it's a really long walk from the Patrician palace to the shades, for instance) and you can be a guild thief or assassin, or a warrior for several factions (like the Palace guard or the hublandish barbarians), or a wizard from UU or some other place, or a priest. It's skill-based, and its web is:

http://discworld.atuin.net

It really feels like Discworld.

I'll keep that in mind :)
I think they made a huge upgrade (like modelling AM directly from the streets-of-ankh-morpork book, adding Djelibeybi and changing the skill system somewhat to allow for more variation in characters) but I have no idea how long ago, since I only started playing last week, and I had logged in only once before and it was two or three months ago (I think the major changes were last year or so).

Major Changes were in 2002. I missed them by a week with my first char. I meant more in the past four months (since they added the Teaching skill really)

As I said I only started playing about last week. When I logged for the first time a month or two ago, I didn't play enough to get out of the n00b area.

I just started playing a barbarian called Holt but I've "refreshed" him a couple times since I get killed quite early in the game.

BAH! Barbs suck, play a Sasswot. Best guild ever, most supportive too. Talk to SCB, Kitiana (Guild Mistress,) and a few others they'll help you out orientating you. Also, if he still plays and isn't a creator again talk to Fewyn, nicest player there is (though he cycles through a lot of charecters,) great guy. Good luck, and remember KLK is the best hunting you'll ever get (unless they changed thigns dramatically, again.)

Good luck, and may the Wombles guide you well.

A sasswhat? Anyhoo I started the Barbarian because I wanted a stereotypical Barbarian hero who ravishes the countryside and stuff :D too bad the Temp/Weather system doesn't allow me to wear nothing more than a loincloth even in a snowstorm, and the Parry/Dodge/Health skill values would be prohibitive...

Wizard, Warrior, Assassin, Thief, Witch and Priest. Each one has different specializations, which in some cases depend on where you join (Warriors, Priests) and in other you chose your specialization much later (Wizards).

Extremely outdated. The latest map AFAIK is here. You can find more maps in the MUD homepage under playing)atlases.

It's like trying to navigate Berlin with a map from 1810.=

These maps are the best you can get.

That page is specially good for finding specific buildings, but it's not very intuitive for general navigation. Airk's maps are easier to read.

I don't know about the license as I'm not a thief. The only quests I know are in the post office, and it's supposedly forbidden to discuss quests or something.

There are, I think, two warrior guilds in Ankh-Morpork: the Palace Guards and the Weapon Masters. In Airk's maps they are the grey squares with the proper labels. And sometimes the first room in a guild isn't the one where you do the joining and/or advancing, so it's a good idea to check each room with "help here".

This is what I recommend for a fresh character: don't buy much armor or clothes, (maybe a robe to keep warm) and scrounge around, using the "search" command in street rooms until you find nothing (sometimes you find a penny, others a rat or cockroach, or random objects that you can sell). Since you can only carry about 6-8 items it's a good idea to wear/hold everything you find, and save up for a backpack so you can scrounge to your heart's content.

Heh, I haven't passed the threshold were I could help anyone out :P I'm still working for my Wizard's degree.

Remember that in this game you earn experience just by standing around and doing nothing too (be sure to do something every couple of minutes or the MUD will kick you out), other than that, well, just type "friends add Cornell <message>" so that you know when I'm logged in or something, and we can chat there.
