Stupid hobbies

Post by Raxmei »

List the dumb things you do here.

I collect bits of rusty metal I find on the street. I started doing this after I moved to California. I found a couple scraps of rebar sitting around. After that my collection gradually grew. I now have drawer full of unsorted useless scrap.

My most stupid hobby is participating in these discussion forums. I've lost count of how many times my wife has told me, "Get off that computer," as though it were another woman. Oh well, everyone has their addictions.

ASVS, SD.net... Those are two.

Gaming, RPG, Table-top and computer... Those are more.

Hell most hobbies are useless and stupid, but they can also be fun.

Yours [Raxmei] sounds downright weird.

Each piece is small enough to fit in my pockets. All of it together fits in a drawer. I don't think it would sell for much.

There was a professor in one of the American universities who recently pointed out that most of the criticism levelled against Internet activity (particular discussion board and newsgroup activity) such as "Internet addiction" could be just as easily be levelled against communicating with other human beings in real life. But he pointed out that no one worries about "talking addiction".

Raxmei, did you recently move to CA ? Like sometime in the last 10 years?
I only ask because if you collect rusty metal their used to be a shut down steel foundry in Union City. That place had a lot of cool old metal laying around.

I found an 1941 encyclopedia, several letters of moveable type from a printing press, etc.

Four years ago. Unfortunately Union City is more distant than I'd like. So far I've gotten all of my material from places I could get to on foot.

Ah, well the Steel Mill, if it was still here, was right next to UC Bart. Just hop the fence and ditch the occassional guard. Great fun for teenagers, but it was probably not the smartest place to be. There was toxic slag everywhere.
