Hyperspace acceleration/decelleration

Post by Enola Straight »

Is a given ship's hyperspace velocity fixed, or can it be throttled back to save fuel?

I assume that its hyperspace velocity is determined beforehand prior to the jump.

Possibly the velocity can be changed IN hyperspace by throttling up/down due to conditions on the run?

I think the biggest amount of energy is expended when you make the jump, and compared to that the amount you spend in hyperspace is small.

In theory, and I'm guessing here, if you go slower you'd spend the same energy because you have to spend more time in hyperspace.

I think your right. In fact I konw your right. It was stated in Rogue Squadron that hyperspace engines "sip" fuel whereas the run burns alot off.

You probably can, to a certain degree, change your hyperspacec velocity. Its never really discussed outright (except in rare cases like in the Lando Calrissian novels), but it would be reasonable to assume that its possible)
