Kang's Heritage

Post by Robert Treder »

If any fellow Marvel fans can help me with this question, it'd be much appreciated. Don't bother reading any further if you don't know anything about Marvel (you'll just get confused and start thinking I'm more of a nerd than you already know I am).

I'd always heard that Kang (Kang/Immortus/Rama-Tut/Scarlet Centurian) was a descendant of Nathaniel Richards.

But in Universe X Chapter Nine, it says that Kang is "...a descendant of either Reed Richards or Victor Von Doom..."

Now, I know that Universe X is an alternate universe from the main Marvel universe, but most elements of its history are identical to the main universe, and I don't see why they'd make a change here.
As a side note, the Destiny War showed that the 'X' timeline is indeed another alternate timeline, capable of interacting with main continuity just as much as Days of Future Past or Age of Apocalypse, etc, as opposed to being a full "What If" (though IIRC, the Destiny War also used characters from What Ifs, indicating that the What If storylines might deserve more consideration than they usually receive).

Well anyways, my real question(s) is(are) this(these): is Kang a descendant of Nathaniel Richards in general, or Reed Richards in particular? Is Von Doom a possible ancestor to Kang in addition to or in place of Richards? (in other words, is it Doom and Richards, or Doom or Richards?

The point of the questions is this: if Kang is a descendant of Reed Richards specifically, then he is presumably a descendant of Franklin Richards. If he is a descendant of Franklin Richards, then there's the possibility that he is the descendant of a child Franklin had with Rachel Summers (they are known to have produced one child in Days of Future Past). If this is so, then that's cool, because Kang has Summers blood in him.

The reason the Reed/Nathaniel thing is critical is that, as we all know, Nathaniel had at least three children, all by different mothers, of whom Reed was one. So if Kang is a descendant of Nathaniel Richards, he isn't necessarily a descendant of Reed Richards as well.

I came upon this situation while making a Summers family tree with this Family Tree maker I got from Kazaa. It's pretty cool, if you're in to that sort of thing.
Anyways, Kang is on the Summers tree, it's just a question of whether or not he has any Summers blood in him.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Isn't Kang the name of a Klingon in TOS, as well as one of those green many-tentacled aliens who appear in the Halloween specials of the Simpsons?

Just pointing out why I came to this thread. I have no answers.

I've heard that Kang the Conguerer is only a possible descendant of Nataniel Richards. I found a listing under Immortus on www.marveldirectory.com that lists him as Nataniel Richard's descendant. However, considering his powers over time, pinning down a specific lineage is pretty iffy. This is also coupled with the fact that he is pretty much outside the timeline, so terms like ancestor and descendant kind of lose their meaning.

Ack too much Marvel timeline fucking about. Brain melting....
