I did mention that I was only about half way through, didn't I.as a non Jedi (Danni) beats up a Vong armed with amphistaffs... and two unarmed jedi take out 5 Vong...

It's not as difficult as you make it sound, as they just splice the genes instead of breeding.Knife wrote: Thats actually silly if you think about it. All their shit is animals who are bred for a specific purpose (at least so far in reading it). To make a new device, you'd have to go through generations of breeding to get a device you wanted.
Even for silly, small things. What if they wanted one of those worm thingys that are translators, to instead of being inside of their ears, to be attached to the side of your head like some sort of head set. Instead of just rigging up a wire head set, they'd have to breed a new version of the worm with the ability to do that.
I know the SW universe is in a tech stagnation but that doesn't mean they can't adapt their tech quick just by preforming small modifications. The Vong would have to go through generations of breeding to make simple modifications.
Its silly. Especially when EVERY THING is an animal bred for what ever mundane reason they needed it for.

So I finished the damn thing the other day. Over all not bad.
Some things bothered me though;
* super uber bio crap
*minimalist's who think 1 SD is a battle fleet (even with a half dozen gunships )
* once again we destroy a planet with (almost) technobabble
On the good side;
* Mara is still Mara even if she went gooshie and married the puss boy...er... Luke
*Liking Danni
On a side note;
* Any one think that the Jade Saber's description in the book makes it out to look like the Flash Gordon looking yachet in Eps. II?[/i]

The basic design is ok, just too much wanking. What sites that on? It can't be cannon.

I found the Dark Tide books good...the two books after though (what were they called?) were boring, then Balance Point was OK (okay, i wished it had been about more than just one little planet...)...Star by Star was AWESOMEConnor MacLeod wrote:No.. that would be Balance Point, followed by "Dark Journey", "A final prophecy", and "Traitor"....Praxis wrote:So you know-
Vector Prime is probably the *WORST* of the New Jedi Order books.
The second book, Dark Tide 1, is when it starts getting good...
Trust me, when you get to Star by Star with thousands of ships in one titanic mega battle, one Star Destroyer will seem small...Knife wrote:So I finished the damn thing the other day. Over all not bad.

And BTW one ISD and a couple support ships was a TASK FORCE, not assualt fleet. They thought it was a bit small, remember?

It is. Kinda. IIRC, its based off the pic from the NEGTVV.It can't be cannon.

That said, and while I do like the overall design, it's too uber for me with all the guns. With the forward compartment, the central sparing compartment and the huge docking bay in the rear, there is shit left for ship systems.

My two cents on the whole E-Wing/X-Wing thing.
I considered the E-Wing to be something like the F/A-22 of the NRDF, essentially a very high-performance fighter that was probably quite expensive as well. The X-Wing was something like the F-14 -- still a competent fighter but also getting old by that point. The "XJ" model might be like the proposed Super Tomcat 21, which had increased range, supercruise, improved avionics, thrust vectoring and more flexible weapons load (a'la F-15E).

Twas my initial reaction but I remember alot of Ewing wank back in the day. I figured that the Ewing would continue. Keep in mind, I stopped reading the EU (in universe) around Thrawns escapades.phongn wrote:My two cents on the whole E-Wing/X-Wing thing.

IP noted that the Republic kept the E-Wings around and they were in development and production as far as Star by Star, so I had just assumed that the E-wings were assigned to the front-line squadrons while others got X-wings.Knife wrote:Twas my initial reaction but I remember alot of Ewing wank back in the day. Yeah if you notice the groups (including some technically paramilitary) on the Rim and such were using T-65Js (I loathe saying XJ X-Wing, sorry), but when the fighting get really into the Republic's territory coreward (remember, there's significant evidence that full-membership in the Republic didn't extend continuously out much beyond the more central regions of the galactic disk) we see the Series IV E-Wings, and the even more beefed-up T-65JA3s ( Again, better than "XJ3 X-Wing").

I usually just say XJ-Wing if I'm referring to the J-series X-Wing. Is it "T-65JA3," though? I thought it was simply T-65J3.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Yeah if you notice the groups (including some technically paramilitary) on the Rim and such were using T-65Js (I loathe saying XJ X-Wing, sorry), but when the fighting get really into the Republic's territory coreward (remember, there's significant evidence that full-membership in the Republic didn't extend continuously out much beyond the more central regions of the galactic disk) we see the Series IV E-Wings, and the even more beefed-up T-65JA3s ( Again, better than "XJ3 X-Wing").
That being said, and I know its not cannon, but when I read it I just though to an X wing. But now........ This is cool, and from now on what I'll picture in my head when I read T 65J.phongn wrote:

Re: Some questions on the EU.
Its very simple. The X-Wing can perform a number of missions fairly well. Its general design makes it effective in three primary roles.Knife wrote:Alyeska wrote:
Actualy both the X-Wing and the E-Wing are still in service. The X-Wing apparently makes for a better general purpose fighter while the E-Wing is a Superiority fighter. Later on in the war it seems the E-Wing and X-Wing numbers are about equal and the XJ-Wings are starting to filter into fleet service.
You'll have to explain what the hell that means. A better general purpose fighter while the other is a better space superiority fighter? A space superiority fighter would be the better general purpose fighter. Is the E wing suposedly a better interceptor? Or strike? The stats I've ever seen on the thing just makes it out to be a better Xwing (while looking dumber).
Strike
Strike Escort
Superiority
Strike means that the X-Wing is given the mission of attacking enemy capitalships.
Strike Escort means that it will escort bombers like the Y-Wing or B-Wing defending against enemy fighters as well as using its torpedoes against the capitalships.
Superiority means that the X-Wing will be used solely for taking out enemy fighters.
The X-Wing is not the best platform for doing Strike or Supeirority missions, though Strike Escort its pretty good at. However it can do all of them fairly well.
The E-Wing was apparently designed as a heavy fighter. While its got a massive torpedo loadout, IIRC it only has one launcher. Its also got big guns that seem designed well for taking out enemy fighters and its got good shields. From what I've been able to determine, the E-Wing appears to make an excelent superiority fighter while being able to lend its torpedoes in strike missions on ocassion.

Actually if your talking about the last scene, Jacen has his lightsabre.Praxis wrote:Knife wrote: Well, it changes a lot. Also in Dark Tide, It makes it clear their only politicians and not the vong's best fighters which might explain the not-so-uber hand2hand.
