That's odd.

So this was a complete surprise?

Because one of my local news outlets is promising live coverage of the handover...

The "sarcastic comments" were because I walked right into breaking news, which is never fun. You're the one who decided to be a dick about it.

Oh fuck, sorry, forgot you worked at the news, I thought you were refering to NATO and the others that have agreed to help out.

It's fun to watch the Gods of our board squabble. :)

Anyway, he's my fingers being crossed that we can get the hell out of there in shorter than a decade. It's their country now.

I just hope that the whole place doesn't get on an express train to Hell as soon as we leave. *Shudder*

With any luck, Iraq will only have to change trains in hell, rather than being the final destination.

Seems they did the transfer early because they were expecting some serious problems on the officially set day, so they just went ahead and did it so all the bombs didn't go off during the official event.

That's on the money. The baddies were planning lots of things for 30 June. All of them are for naught now. I can see the insurgents and foreign terrorists now, "Hey, wait .... damn."

Hey jegs, long time no see. And this was probably the smart thing to do. (Wonder if the idea actually originated in the Oval Office or not... Hmm.) Still, if there are really all that many attacks planned (something I don't doubt), I don't think the insurgents will waste the effort of putting them together, whether the ceremony's actually on the 30th or not.

Are they doing some sort of big ceremonial hand-over type thing? That would strike me as being rather stupid.

Not big. It was quiet, it was in the Green Zone, and it was last night.

Though they could say there would be a big formal ceremony, and have a tank company waiting at the site instead of the expected dignitaries.

Did you notice? There were none of these retarded blue-and-white flags anywhere. Are they gonna change it now or what?

Yep, this is a great PR move by Bush. Not only does it sidestep the inevitable attacks planned for the 30th, but it also allows him to give the finger to people that have said that Iraq will never be ready in time.

Non-Bush cocksucker: Iraq will never be ready by June 30th to assume control of their country in anything but a token form.

Bush: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I proved you wrong by doing it not only on time but two days early!!! And with no backlash from rebels either!!! HAHAHAHAHA, I AM SUCH A GENIUS!!!!
