I can't help but feel like this has been said before...ah well. I've got me a monster post to write. See you on the flipside.
Maybe because it has, right before more arguement.

Okay, right now I'm talking to Beowulf about starting a new (as in totally new) power in order to prevent the recurring problems this one seems to bring on.

You and Hotfoot had a disagreement...but locking is just a bit of taking it far.

If the problem is out of hand take it honestly into PMs...not locking things, especially of this size.

It is being taken else where, but locking it was force just that at the moment.

You'll notice the lock is only temporary in order to allow every to cool off. Everything is under control.

And you were complaining about "heavy-handed modding" in the last STGOD, Stormbringer? Isn't even temp-locking a thread because you don't like the discussion a bit, shall we say, heavy-handed, too?

For the most part, this thrad is so huge because of Laz' bitching, and recently Beowulf. The discussions about Aly's magic pale in comparison to the sheer amount of bitching Laz dished out.

And it is justified to get irritated when someone drops a bomb, and when he doesn't like the results of it, bitches, moans, and then leaves without further notice.
Other people announce when they have spotty connections for weekends. It wouldn't be too much to ask if he did notify this thread of his absense. It is not my duty to check on all and every board member's online and posting status...

And for the record, I think it would be a good idea to have another mod for this, and, personally, I wouldn't mind Hotfoot at all.

Get me if I'm wrong, but one of the "jobs" of a moderator is to make sure the game runs smoothly. This game hasn't been running smoothly for over a week now, why hasn't anything been done?

Dang. It was beginning to look like the game thread was catching up to the OOC thread. :( Oh well.

And just what do you expect him to do? Half the major players are on vacation. There's not much to be done about that.

If that was your government's opinion, then you need to fire your entire intelligence agency. :P The Alliance was formed at the initiative of the United Protectorates, and the Alliance HQ and other functions are on Lastport.

I never said they were perfect, and as far as I am concerned the AE were the ones that sent the memo to all the other nations about joining the bang bus. *shrugs*

Yeah, the Covenant was conquered before Frigid ever joined the game. The Alliance is a completely separate entity, and there were public statements about the Alliance's formation when it was formed. I mean, if your CIA equivalent can't even pick up on public press releases...

meh. I was under the impression that the alliance was alive and kicking back when Aly was leading the charge against the CoG. There goes that idea. I am going to have to go back and read over most of that stuff some more.

This gets back to the beowulf issue. While I agree things will certainly be less interesting with so many major players away, that doesn't mean everyone has to stop playing. The trade fair plot has been just *waiting* for a week or so because Beowful can't post. It is the moderators job to keep that sort of event from happening, even if it means Beowulf gets shafted.

No, no, I formed the alliance to act has a NATO sytle organization, a defensive pact, not a perament bang bus.

The alliance was not part of the Occupation, however the UP did assign a crusier group and 9 army divisions on the request of the Republic, who to this day remains the UP closiest Ally, trading partner and so on.

This needs to be addressed, since there still seems to be some confusion on the matter with people thinking that InnocentBystander challenged Stormbringer on the state of Beowulf's enlistment. I will now bold the key parts of the exchange, to clear up confusion.
InnocentBystander wrote:
Stormbringer wrote:Old news, he joined the Air Force some time ago and has had spotty access ever since then.
Has he? Proof please? I see no messages hinting that his time on the message boards will be limited. Did everyone on earth get a memo saying "Hey, if it ever comes up, this guy named "Beowulf", on the SDnet forums, he's in the airforce, he doesn't get to post that often."? I know I didn't.
Now, I ask you, where did InnocentBystander ask for proof of Beowulf's enlistment? Doesn't seem to exist, does it?

He was asking for proof that Beowulf made it known that his access was spotty. Beowulf only made this fact known after he had already disappeared, and since then has done nothing to remedy it by granting control of his forces to another player.

I'm not the only person who wants this resolved. Heck, on the first night, before Beowulf even disappeared, people were calling for me to end this event brutally by annihilating his fleet. If anything, I've prolonged this by trying to give him a chance to recover from his mistakes thus far. He hasn't recovered, and each time I've given him the chance, he's just dug himself a deeper hole. The fact that his access is spotty has prolonged an event that should have taken days into something that has now taken up whole weeks. It needs to come to a conclusion, and Beowulf needs to face the consequences for his mistakes.

I'm trying to do what I can with out being more heavy handed about it. I guess I'll have to just be more blatant instead of trying get people to work out with out resorting to Mod rulings all the time.

A week is not going to kill any one. But at this point I will ask Beowulf to nominate a second and if he doesn't by thursday evening I'll just appoint a neutral player to handle it.

Hotfoot,

In case I didn't make it plain to you, I am not going to choke this thread with what is now a purely personal arguement. And I have no desire at all to simply listen to your rant and spew bile at me. Now, if you wish to continue this utterly pointless flame war I'd be happy to split it to the Hall of Shame or Testing rather than continue it here.

 Alyrium, that's a hell of a lot of firepower to bring to bear against pirates.

And for that matter, that's a hell of a lot of firepower for pirates to be running around with. Dreadnoughts? Your average pirate ain't interested in a fleet engagement, and ships of the line are overkill for your average merchant convoy.

Duh, they're pirates with dreams of empire. Perhaps they used the money from pirating to build up a small fleet with the hopes of becoming a honest to God nation and someday a major power.

Not that's going to happen now

It was not a post for you, it was already dealt with. I was receiving messages from several other people who were still confused on that point, so I thought I would clear things up.

I had to make it so my fleet doesnt get a complete cakewalk. Besides, they would need a couple ships of the line to hake harder targets like armed merchant cruisers.
