Veering off-topic and hijacking threads

Why do we do it? Any answers? It seems that many times we "hijack" threads, but don't know that we do it until we look at the topic name and see what's going on in the thread...I've done this a couple of time (apology) and am not proud of it, but am wondering why we do this. Does anyone have any ideas?

It's a common occurrence on usenet. It's hard to stay on one conversation track when a new interest comes up. It's a bit more of a nuisance here because you need a moderator to diverge the topics manually.

Veering off-topic is graduall changing the subject, but it can happen in as few as 3 replies. Hijacking is when one person intentionally changes to topic to express their own views. I'm sure some of our trolls did this.

When you post something that doesn't answer the OPs question, you KNOW it doesn't, and it's just there to provoke a reaction, it is hijacking. That's what mods are for.
