Best Superman Cartoon --take two

Post by Patrick Degan »

Sorry for the screwup, people. OK, once again, which is your favourite Superman cartoon: the Dave Fleischer short-subjects from the 1940s, the Filmation Saturday moming series, or the 90s Kids WB edition?

Is the 90s show the Superman animated series or the Batman/Superman Adventures series? Also, what about Justice League? It's not Superman centered exactly, but he is one of the main characters and it is a really good show. Or is that all under 90's WB?

Clarifications

Post by Patrick Degan »

Justice League is a seperate series. It is generally not considered a Superman cartoon since it involves the other DC heroes as well as the Man of Steel, and thus would fall into the same category, technically, as The Superfriends/Challenge Of The Superfriends.

The Batman/Superman Adventures
was a combination of the already-extant Superman Animated Series package and an additional season of Batman: The Animated Series which was originally planned to go out under the title Gotham Knights but instead was combined into the B/SA package.

For purposes of this poll, we are considering only Superman: The Animated Series as a Superman cartoon.

Too bad you didnt give a fourth option. Which I just posted about. That I enjoy all three. They each have merit, and can also reflect the times in which they were created.

By the way Degan, three more posts and your a Jedi.

An "all of the above" vote, I presume?

You must be one of the few people who even remember that there was a 1960s Saturday morning Superman cartoon series. You must also have seen the Batman cartoon series put out by the same people. Or did Cartoon Network or TVLand ever show either of these?

Wonder Woman is more powerful than Superman in the Justice League Cartoon. If you doubt that, just watch the premier episode.

I enjoy the old 1940's stuff. My favorites are when he fights the army of robots and the Bullet Car. I always thought those had a lit of drama to them.

The Fleischer ones are beautiful. The stories are simple and entertaining, and the animation is extraordinary.
I haven't seen many of the 60s cartoon series, but from what I have seen, it's almost as bad as Superfriends.
The 90s show had good art design, bad animation, and mediocre stories.

And the Justice League show? Give me a break. Acceptable design, horrible animation, and so-so stories. Some of the stories were ok, but they were all devalued by the stupid setup and poor writing.
Who the fuck decided to put Hawkgirl on the damn Justice League? If it's a medium in which she's not allowed to break open skulls, she doesn't belong anywhere.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'
