Release of SPMBT&SPWW2

Post by Tasoth »

Browsing Shrapnel games website, news of the release of SPMBTv3 and SPWWWv7 for free caught my eye, as free games are good games. Figured people might be interested.

This game appears to be like Close Combat 3 but more vast and accurate.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

ABOUT FUCKING TIME!

I've been waiting for them to release them....

They announced in JANUARY that they would release them by "late
spring".....

Well, May came and passed, and they said they'd release them by
"late June"......june came and passed............

I downloaded SP:WWII 7 last night, but SP:MBT 3 is the one I'm really waiting for. Let's hope SP Camo dosen't overun their release estimate again...

You might not want to use acronyms unless the people you're talking to already know what they mean, and I certainly don't.

SP= Steel Panthers

SPWW2 = Steel Panthers World War 2

SPMBT = Steel Panthers Main Battle Tank

They're quite good, save for some very annoying Soviet TO&E errors (wrong capabilities, designations, incorrect armor) that only a few people would spot.

But not 1, 2, 4 or 5 right? :p
History? I love history! First, something happens, then, something else happens! It's so sequential!! Thank you first guy, for writing things down!

Yeah I spotted those errors as well (it was mostly the '70s/'80s era Soviet MBTs: the most glaring one is they applied the "monkey model" desigantions to the early Soviet Army T-72s), but SP Camo was good enough to include the MOBHACK tool, so fixing those errors is a snap if you have the correct data available. Also it wasn't just the Soviet/Russian OOB that had errors: every country in the database had at least some, like the penetration for the 60s era APDS ammo for the British L7 guns on the Centurion tanks having way too high penetration. This is especially apparent in the Canadian OOB, when the L7 gun for the Centurion Mk. 8 has higher penetration than the L7 gun of the Leopard C1 that replaced it. Also, the Cnadian OOB has the C7 rifle being introduced in 1971, when it was in fact introduced in 1984.

An annoying (but absolutely unavoidable) thing was they had to make compromises in the US Army OOB because they had already filled it to the limit. Thankfully, the next build will definately fix that deficency.

1 and 2 had bad graphics and were not as realistic. 4 and 5 plain sucked compared to Close Combat 3 : The Russian Front.

I tried to get a comprehensive "fixed Soviet armor/equipment" thing going a year ago, but it was such a big job. I think I still have my list ... somewhere. Meh.

I'm pretty satisfied with the numbers I've given the Soviet/Russian MBTs from the T-64 onwards, though the most fun I had modding the Russian OOB was with Spetsnaz: I've added new squads, along with some new weapons, like the AN-94 rifle, and the RPG-26, 27, and 29 (I havn't actually issued the '29 yet, as it seems a little too bulky for SFs, and I don't know if any regualar forces use it). I was going to add the BS-1 30mm GL, but I can't find any reliable specs on it.

The RPG-29 is in service with the RFAS (Russian Federation Armed Services); don't worry, add it.

RPG-7V2/RPG-7D3 would also be a good idea to add. You should send/post your notes on HAB for peer review :)
