And another plus: Firefox blocks spyware! Normally after my general browsing i have aroung 8-10 spyware when using IE, but when using Firefox - NONE !

It doesn't block spyware, it just doesn't support them (Lacks ActiveX support- though you can add it ).2000AD wrote:And another plus: Firefox blocks spyware! Normally after my general browsing i have aroung 8-10 spyware when using IE, but when using Firefox - NONE !

As noted, Opera can do this 'out of the box'. You might not be able to edit CSS's dynamically, but you can switch them dynamicaflly without having to piss about installing anything but the program itself.Pu-239 wrote: That's what extensions are for. One useful one is the one that lets you edit CSS on the fly and see results immediately. Rather amusing to edit the CSS for microsoft.com (I didn't do that but someone else did for kicks).
I have to work eight hours a day fucking about making other people's PC's work, I want mine to do it's shit straight away without me having to press anything more than the 'on' button. Ever. I don't want to piss my life away installing features that should be there anyway.
That's also why I have a Mac.
I don't know. I do know that it doesn't have IE's nasty ActiveX problems, which is a big step forward. It may have security problems, but I sure haven't seen any exploited. I definitely can't say that for IE, which seems to pick up some nasty bit of malware every other day.2000AD wrote:SO is Mozilla more secure because it doesn't have any of IE's securioty problems? Does it have any problems of it's own?
You can un-popupblock certain sites. It also allows popups that directly result from clicking on a link, which solves almost all of the cases where you want popups.EDIT: also, since it appears to block pop-ups, how do i view the pop-ups i want to see, such as PM notices.
I'm using Firefox right now, and I have to say the following statement:
FIREFOX IS THE SHIT!!! I will never use Netscape or IE again!!

Opera is similarly immune.

It'll work, though Firefox can use up gobs of RAM when you have multiple windows and tabs open.Plekhanov wrote:Thanks for all the recommendations I’ll give firefox a try and see how I like it.
Also I forgot to say before but a few of the PCs I look after are pretty low end (400mhz 128mb that kind of thing) is firefox a good browser for hand me down systems?
That's amazing. I cannot tolerate Phoenix (old Firefox) on a Pentium 120 (Linux). Heck, it annoys me on my Pentium-II 450 with 512 MB of RAM- that and the profile locking and multiple monitors (seperate desktops) have convinced me to switch to Galeon (yet another mozilla based browser). I still miss the features though.Vendetta wrote:My old Pentium 166 is happy with Firefox. It's still faster than IE.

Well I’ve downloaded (a mere 4.5mb) and installed Firefox and have been using it for a while now and quite like it. It’s too early to say I really like it, nothing about it has pissed me off yet anyway which is unusual as I’m very easily annoyed.
I must say that the whole process of changing browsers was incredibly quick and ridiculously easy. If any others out there are still using IE because they a scared that changing will be too much trouble quit worrying and make the move, the whole process took under 10 minutes (including downloading) and firefox seems so straightforward that you’ll hardly notice the difference.
I really was astonished at just how ridiculously easy the changeover was, I can’t believe I waited for so long before making the change. I’ll install firefox on my friends and families machines over the next week or so, it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t even realise I’ve changed anything, assuming they have the intelligence to translate “favourites” to “bookmarks” that is which come to think of it I doubt.
Thanks again you guys for all the advice has been much appreciated and will hopefully stop all those scumbags who I feel sure have it in for me from nicking my credit card details.

It would be practically be the same if several IE browsers were on. Might as well keep it in one.phongn wrote:It'll work, though Firefox can use up gobs of RAM when you have multiple windows and tabs open.Plekhanov wrote:Thanks for all the recommendations I’ll give firefox a try and see how I like it.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
Yeah, I usually browse with 10-20 tabs open at a time.

By the way, is there a way to allow pop-ups from specific sites with Opera? I've not figured that out yet...
