To German posters, about the alleged child abuse in Iraq

Post by Hamel »

On Liberty Post I read that footage of the alleged abuse was aired on German television. Have any of you seen this yet?
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

NEWS IN ENGLISH
IRAQ:
Norway reacts to torture of children

Carin Pettersson 06.07.04 11:59

As a reaction to the alleged torture of children, Norwegian authorities state they will address the US both politically and diplomatically and clearly state that it is not tolerated.

German television aired footage of American abuse of children in jails in Iraq Monday.

«Such assaults are unacceptable,» said Odd Jostein Sæter, parliamentary secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, to the Norwegian television channel NRK. «It is against international laws and it is also unacceptable from a moral point of view. This is why we react strongly, as we already have reacted to the abuse which is documented at the prisons in Iraq.»

He said that Norwegian authorities will use its first possible opportunity to respond to the Americans actions both politically and diplomatically. He stressed that jailing and assaulting children will not be tolerated.

«We are addressing this in a very severe and direct way and present concrete demands,» Sætre said. «This is damaging the struggle for democracy and human rights in Iraq.»

Norwegian authorities are going to review the report of the alleged assaults.

The Norwegian branch of Amnesty International states that Norway can not continue its military collaboration with the US in light of the alleged torture of children.

A post on DU says that Red Cross reports were cited and testimonials given, but no real abuse footage was shown.

Can a mod close this thread since the whole video thing turned out to be bullshit? The thread has served it's purpose.

First post here on the subject of abuse

It was sent by the ADR "Mainz Report".
I haven't seen it (I do not own a telly).

According to the international red cross there are atleast 107 children imprisoned, as this is the number found during inspections done by the red cross in 6 different prisons.
In turn the UNICEF was denied to enter a prison specially build in Bahgdad to hold imprisoned children and teenager.
Furthermore witnesses have claimed to have seen how teenager were sexuall assaulted by interrogation specialists as well as children being abused to put pressure on their parents.

After reading that atleast 37 people were killed while in american custody, the widespread torture seemingly ordered from above and the disappearing of prisoners I am not even surprised anymore.

Why aren't we hearing more about this in the US?

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Take a guess...it is election time.

And "Report Mainz" is no news programm, but a political magazine programm. They dig to dig out things that others tried to burry. Maybe it will take some time, before the news go out big time.

A quick addendum to give a more complete account and enable you to better judge for yourselve)
Two sources were named:
1. an noncom officier of the military intelligence agency with the name Samuel Provance stationed in Abu Graib.
This guy has seen how a 15 to 16 year old girl was "bedrängt", don't know how to translate it but the behaviour described by it goes from word to touching and groping, till she was disrobed, and only then the military police intervened.
He also reported how a sixteen year old was first drenched in water, then driven through the cold then covered with mud to get hsi father to talk.
2. an imprisoned reporter from Al-Jazeera with the name Suhaib Badr Addin Al Bas claims to have seen how US soldiers beate up a 12 year old girl.

"Report" is normally a very trustworthy source, as are almost all of ARD and ZDF's political, investigative magazines.
IIRC there was an article up on spiegel.de, too, about this
