'Darth' appears to be a title-like word, derived directly from the name of Darth Bane, who restructured Sith rankings and started the Sith Lord naming scheme 1,000 years before the Clone Wars (the useage of 'Darth' in KotOR is an anachronism by BioWare's fault). It very likely does not mean mean 'lord' in any language, or directly mean anything, though it may have aquired the connotation of 'lord' due to its origin.

IIRC Darth Bane was not his orginal name. It can be that he or Revan was the first use his sith name insted of his orginal name. so old sith lords could have had word "darth" sith names that is never used in the Republic. BTW has Lucasfilm of BioWare said "darth" in KOTOR is a mistake?Utsanomiko wrote:'Darth' appears to be a title-like word, derived directly from the name of Darth Bane, who restructured Sith rankings and started the Sith Lord naming scheme 1,000 years before the Clone Wars (the useage of 'Darth' in KotOR is an anachronism by BioWare's fault). I've read chronology info on Darth Bane and the era surround his rise to power, and don't recall anything insinuating that he had any other name. I'm quite certain he had that title before becoming Dark Lord of the Sith, at least, but I'd have to look it up to clear it up completely.Lord Revan wrote: IIRC Darth Bane was not his orginal name.
Then there's an odd 3,000 year gap between Revan and Malak's unexplained use of the title and the arrival of Bane, the later of whom at least bears credit of inventing the 'master and apprentice' duality of Sith organization (which is definitely an anachronism in KOTOR), if not the invention of using 'Darth' as a title. LucasFilm fails to declare a lot of glaring mistakes they've liscenced, video games especially. It can be that he or Revan was the first use his sith name insted of his orginal name. so old sith lords could have had word "darth" sith names that is never used in the Republic. Precisely. If it means anything, 'Lord' is a very unlikely possibility. Most likely the Sith Lord names are simply harkening back to Darth Bane and his resurgence of the Sith millennia after the Sith War(s), vagely in the same sense that religious missionaries and leaders aquire the names of scriptural figures upon entering their position.Enforcer Talen wrote:why would he be lord darth vader then?

IIRC Episode I Novel said that Darth Bane took the name Darth Bane, so unless he unamed before that he should have another unknown name also IIRC the name of the dark lord before Bane is unknown.Utsanomiko wrote:I've read chronology info on Darth Bane and the era surround his rise to power, and don't recall anything insinuating that he had any other name.
