He's quoting George Carlin's "You're all diseased". Not sure if that excuses it though.MKSheppard wrote:Thanks for buying into the Uncle Tom propaganda about Powell. SOIceberg wrote: He just happens to be black, but he's openly white.

If America is the Empire, then Arnold is definitely Tarkin.
I have no idea where these bullshitters are getting their poll results. Though I know many who dislike President Bush's foreign policies, most of the people in my high school (aged 15-18) look on America as the friendly, patriotic, and much richer, neighbours to the south, where you can get everything at half the price than it is up here.

I'm sure the Canadian veterans from WWII appreciate their history being remembered. Same goes for those who helped liberate Kuwaitt. And I'm sure the Canadian soldiers in Afganistan appreciate their sacrafices going unnoticed.Dumbshit from Fox News wrote:The truth is that the USA has freed more human beings in 230 years than the rest of the world combined. I honor their sacrifice, but in all fairness they wouldn't have accomplished much without the help of the US.Wicked Pilot wrote:I'm sure the Canadian veterans from WWII appreciate their history being remembered. Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

How do you figure? I don't recall the USA helping us fight the battles at Falaise or Caen, nor were they there when we liberated the Low Countries. All the USA did to help us was produce some of our equipment, but truth be told most of the equipment in use by the Canadian military was produced in Canada. What the USA did make possible was the invasion of Normandy, without their manpower it would not have been possible on that scale.BlkbrryTheGreat wrote: I honor their sacrifice, but in all fairness they wouldn't have accomplished much without the help of the US.

Also, if you go by that view of WWII, we all need to bow down to the Soviets. Without them and the Nazis fighting tooth and nail in the East, the invasion would have been impossible (too many divisions could have repelled). So without the Soviets sacrificing millions to keep in the war, nothing the Americans did would have been relevant.Cpl Kendall wrote:How do you figure? Without the UK still being in existence, the US couldn't have invaded (no close base), without the Commonwealth to draw on, Britain would have gone under, etc... War is a complex thing - trying to yank out who was responsible for victory is a pointless game. The US was the powerhouse, so was the supplier for much of the war effort. The UK and Commonwealth Countries were heavily bled during the war (Canada was relatively fortunate) that started a few years before the US was involved.
Overall - chack up these comments to another O'Reilley moment - his mouth was connected to his ass rather than his brain. And has about as much worth.

Why? Because Canada only had just about the largest navy, and 4th largest army amongst the allies in WWII?BlkbrryTheGreat wrote:I honor their sacrifice, but in all fairness they wouldn't have accomplished much without the help of the US.

Rowboats and patrol craft does "qualify" as the "largest" navy, but not the most powerful. However, they did have quite a few good cruisers and destroyers and Canada's Army Corps was appreciated in Europe.Graeme Dice wrote:Why? It should be noted that the vast bulk of Canada's warships during WWII were puny destroyers, destroyer-escorts, and corvettes, and the RCN's predominant task was protecting convoys from U-boats, not engaging other navies head-on, as we had no capital ships (battleships and fleet carriers), and thus would be curbstomped by any navy who did have them. Also, when the RCN held it's place as the "world's 3rd largest navy" the the end of WWII, the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Kreigsmarine had already been decimated.Graeme Dice wrote:Why? Because Canada only had just about the largest navy, and 4th largest army amongst the allies in WWII?
At its peak near the end of WWII, the RCN had only had a handful of ships larger than destroyers, which consisted of two light cruisers, 4 carriers (3 of which were escort carriers, aka "baby flat tops"). Also, it should be noted that a good chunk of the WWII-era RCN (including all our heaviest ships such as the ones mentioned above) was built Britain: The ships were donated to Canada simply because the Brits didn't have enough men available to crew them.
Also, Canada's WWII army consited of a mere 5 divisions (3 infantry, 2 armored). By contrast, the US Army ultimately fielded about 90 divisions, the British fielded 50+ divisions (not counting "static" divisions like AA or home-guard divisions, which would bring this total to close to 100), and the Red Army peaked at well over 200 divisions.
Not trying to diss my own country's contribution to WWII, but there is only so much a country with Canada's limited manpower can do...
