No thanks!

I like my brain the way it is. No need for such additions.

I doubt actually being in a game would be superior to keyboard and mouse. :P

Provided there is a distinct barrier between my consciousness and the computer, I'd do it.

When they have plug and play porn built directly into your brains, i'll start showing interest.

Yeah, that's probably the most important thing ... viruses and hackers cause enough trouble already; I don't want a script kiddy to be able to fuck with my brain.

Considering that the brain is not a software-driven device, you don't have to worry about hackers. The worst they could do is interfere with the neural input device, scrambling the signals and stuff.

I don't like the idea of an errant power surge being able to fry me so easily.

The minor amount of power used in neurons is insignificant. Remember, any device that connects to your brain/nervous system will likely be embedded, so it will have either build in batteries which means that the power will be very low, or it will use electromagnetic induction, which we're already doing for cochlear implants.

Be in the game? Sure, why not?

(Actually, I might prefer a holodeck, but I'll take what I can get!)

Just let me put in a few cheats first.

You still need a connection between the implant and the outside world, and I really don't like the idea of this thing picking up and using radio signals. People might not be able to hack into my brain, but they could theoretically flood my brain with inputs I don't want, which could be very disorienting and unpleasant.

I'm imagining a person walking around screaming, "AGH! Everything's gone blue...Ctrl-Alt-Delete! Ctrl-Alt-Delete!"

No thanks, I prefer not giving a game the ability to kill me should my character die...

Aluminium foil would work. So would the off button. :)

The connection to the outside could be through induction.

Couldn't they send ridiculous flashing lights and strobes and make a seizure-prone person go kabloik? Or try to send an enormous amount of information through whatever it is that interfaces your consciousness with the computer?

Shinova: That's why epileptics wont get implants.. Signal overload wouldn't be much of a problem because we can be fed lots of information as it is without any problem. Just look at a tv screen.. It's flickering on and off very quickly but it doesn't overload your optic nerves. Or listen to static. Or feel something vibrating. Those are all massive data rates, and yet you don't get hurt by them. No sensory input device could "overload" your brain. The only real risk of overload is if a deep-brain implant sent random signals through vital parts of your brain, but since those parts of your brain aren't involved in sensory hallucinations, whereas the optic nerves, auditory nerves, and spinal chord are, there isn't much of a risk.
