Official Star Wars novels

Now that I have a little free time I think it would be a great idea to start reading Star wars books again. The only problem is that I have no idea as to which ones are official/canon, and which are just for fun.

Anyone know where I could check out some official titles online?

Everything is official or 'quasi-canon' or canon vs 'absolute canon' (being the films, unless it has the "Infinities" label.

Stay away from anything with the word 'Infinities' as part of the title. I can assure you, "ANH - Infinities", "ESB - Infinities" and "ROTJ - Infinities" gives a new definition for the word 'bullshit', 'crap' and 'fuck this shit, I'm now officially a canon purist'.

lol. Thanks for the warnings. I'm planning on going to a book store sometime today. After your warnings I probably won't rush into buying any wars books today, but I will have a good look and ask you guys for some advice later today or tomorow.

There a few real gems in the EU, the Thrawn Trilogy and Duology are among these, and some parts of the X wing series, The New Jedi Order series, out of about 21 books, manages to have about 6 decent ones.

a good way to see what good books are avililbe is to have a look on amazon.com, which will have a an almost complete list of Star Wars Books

Some Good Shit:

The Thrawn Trilogy by Zahn.

I hear good things about Crispin's Han Solo trilogy.

Some OK Shit:

The Thrawn Duology. By Zahn.

The X-wing novels. Some are way better than others.

Maybe the Black Fleet Crisis.

Some BAD SHIT:

The Dread KJA (Kevin J Anderson). The Ultimate Hack. Legends say he feeds off the souls of fanboys everywhere, causing the ruin of entire franchises by infecting them with terminal stupidity.

these franchises include :Starwars, Startrek , X Files, Dune and many others

The Thrawn series was definitely one I have heard about. I will probably buy one from that series if I make it to the book shop before it closes.

Although it' does have a minamalist feel, and X-wings taking out Star Destroyers, i think the X-Wing series is quite good, especially Allston's novels.
The Thrawn trilogy as others have suggested is a must read.

Stay away from anything by Kevin J. Anderson, unless your sure your goggles will do something.

Truce at Bakura is a very underrated part of the EU. Also makes a good beginning is you want to read the books in cronological order. My problem with the EU was that i'd read it out o synch. I started on the Thrawn Trilogy then the X-Wing boosk then the others as i found them in W H Smiths. Bad idea if your trying to follow the time line.

The Black Fleet Crisis is... Bad. Stay away from that one. I'd read the KJA stuff again before the Black Fleet... Nothing like pacifistic (?spelling?) all female-Force users to pontificate on ethics and morality while they stood aside and let the fucking galaxy burn around them.

I agree with Pounder. Truce at Bakura makes a very good introduction to the world of the EU... it begins just a day after ROTJ.

Uhm, if you want to experience the full story, you WILL have to read some KJA books... yes, they tend to be horrible, but goggles of non-stupidity help. *shrugs*

Tatooine Ghost by Troy Denning kicks very much ass, takes place after The Courtship of Princess Leia.

Another good triliogy right up there with the Thrawn one is the Han Solo Trilogy by Brian Daley that takes place before ANH.

Thanks for all the advice. I have decided to buy "Heir to the Empire" since it is highly recommended, and see how it goes from there. I always wanted to read about G.A. Thrawn ever since I played star wars: Rebellion(supremacy).
I love the price. Under £5 from amazon

unless I can find a similar price for a brand new copy from a book store.
