Blue Shift

Post by Cal Wright »

I got Blue Shift in from Stravo the other day. I seem to be having a problem and I have no idea what's causing it. This happens with Opposing Force as well which came on the disc. Basically the game runs perfectly fine when just running around. Once I encounter enemies though I start what I think is lagging in a sense. It feels like the controls are just sloppy. Any ideas?

If that does not fix the problem its time to defrag your hard drive, make sure you have the latest drivers for everything(Espcilly the card) and see if you can't turn of Vysnc

Yay, my computer is better (except for graphics card)-

Intel Pentium II 450MHz - may be able to steal 550 Pentium III from sister when I figure out how to fit the massive heat sink and mobo in the smaller case.
512MB SDRAM- yay I have the most RAM of anyone on this board with obsolete computers.
nVidia RIVA TNT2 32MB
Creative SB Live
bunch of other stuff, adding a SCSI card and SCSI drives to it.
Debian Linux- Kernel 2.6.6

I'm getting a dual 200MHz (Pentium Pro or II? Do they make 200MHz Pentium II procs?)server, may be upgradable to 266MHz (I have two of those)- probably not suitable for gaming though.

And I thought my computer was shit. I run a superior OS and have 2.5X the amount of RAM. Plus the SCSI stuff...

:P

No, really, for gaming my computer sucks, since I can't run games until I get around to installing Windows on the other partition, and the fact that I have dialup is really annoying.

Pu-239, please don't tell me you are dishing out hundreds on SCSI drives (SCSI's are damned expensive things) when its you're computer you really need to replace.

Seriously people, in this day and age you can get yourself a barebones 2 ghz system (that can be further upgraded) for like 500 bucks (CDN). Is it really so hard to save up 500 bucks or whatever its american equivalent is?

I got it for free... my uncle's friend's company is throwing out a crapload of stuff- besides, the SCSI stuff dates from around 1995- though I saw the model still sold by Adaptec for a couple hundred.

No, I may be stupid, but I'm not that stupid.

A lot of people can't afford a couple hundred bucks as a luxury, unfortunately. Reality of life.

My neighbour runs a refurbished computer store, selling over-stock and last-year's-model Pentium 4/2ghz machines with 256 Megs of RAM a 40gig HD and a CD-RW (onboard sound and video) for about $350 US. And even at THAT, he gets complaints from students that his prices are too high (consequently he sells a lot of old Dell P3-800 /128meg /10gb HD /WIN 98 basic use machines for about $100 US).
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Phew, worried me there for a sec. :P But man, 1995 era SCSI's.... *shudders* Barring the Adaptec one which is likely newer, Im guessing no more than 5400 rpm with maybe a few gigs of space at best. But they are free, and if it makes ya happy go for it.
