Yuuchan Vong vs the Old Republic
What if the YV came to the galaxy roughly a thousand years before ANH, how do you think some events would turn out to happen?
Could the Old Republic forces be strong enough to defeat them or YV defeat the OR?

The Old Republic had just been fighting an other Jedi vs Sith war.
They might have had the firepower, and certainly had lots of Jedi warriors with military and combat experience.
It would depend on if the Vong hit the Republic directly, or hit the outer rims and built up a power base first

I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.
It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

The old republic had not had a full fledged war since their formation, remember? It'd have to be a lot farther back than 1,000 years.
And we know that the Republic did NOT have an army. Palpatine made one in secret, and it probably paled compared to the Empire (which had a LOT more time to build it) or even the New Republic (which had just FINISHED a war with the Empire). Pre-Ep2, there was no army of the republic. The YV would have stomped them, they would have started constructing an army rapidly, but wouldn't get enough time.
The Old Republic would have all the problems of the new republic (squabbling idiotic senators, lots of territory to defend) with a lot less military power. They'd die.
On the other hand, at the height of the Empire they would have a large army AND a unified government (Palpatine alone can decide to smash the Vong). If they send everything in the moment the Vong bother the Empire, they can take the Vong one by one as they arrive and EASILY smash their Vong rears.

*shrug* they would have 10 times as many Jedi as the New Republic did.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Yeah, but that would make the YV 10 times more eager to slaughter the. Besides, the keys elements to the YV Empire's collapse (Vergere, Zonama Sekot, the Skywalkers/Solos) were either not in place or not even born, so how the OR would deal with the YV remains to be seen - though I'll concede that they would have had a better shot than the NR in the first 2 years of the invasion.Knife wrote:*shrug* they would have 10 times as many Jedi as the New Republic did.

Well, the fact that the OR had many, many more Jedi across the galaxy would have made it rather difficult for the the Vong to establish a foothold. Remember that it only took a few Jedi knowing about Helska to royally mess that up, and they had also thwarted other plans.JME2 wrote:Yeah, but that would make the YV 10 times more eager to slaughter the. The Old Republic may not have had a unified military to speak of, but each planet/sector still had their own defenses. In the NR era, those planetary/sector defense fleets were rather decimated from the war, and the NR Navy was trying desperately to fill in the holes. I'm pretty sure that the Jedi, with the help of the Supreme Chancellor, could at least get a couple sectors to cooperate in fighting back a localized Vong incursion...

AOTC shows that the Jedi Order was all the OR had in terms of armed forces, though they surely must have had some kind of smaller navy, as seen with the Republic ships in TPM.Boyish-Tigerlilly wrote:Didn't the republic have a navy?

The Jedi were the official peacekeeping force of the Republic, but each sector maintained an independent armed force, akin to militias. I think.

ICS firmly establishes that all larger systems have rather powerful defense fleets but that they are rather short on range and consumables. So no long campaigns for the moment, but defense should be okay.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
They did have a fleet of Dreadnoughts before AOTC.JME2 wrote:AOTC shows that the Jedi Order was all the OR had in terms of armed forces, though they surely must have had some kind of smaller navy, as seen with the Republic ships in TPM.Boyish-Tigerlilly wrote:Didn't the republic have a navy?

Aren't Dreadnoughts fairly weak and inefficient compared to ISDs? Even VSDs I thought.FOG3 wrote:They did have a fleet of Dreadnoughts before AOTC.JME2 wrote:AOTC shows that the Jedi Order was all the OR had in terms of armed forces, though they surely must have had some kind of smaller navy, as seen with the Republic ships in TPM.Boyish-Tigerlilly wrote: Didn't the republic have a navy?
