evidently Iron Mike wants to replace Jeri Ryan's pervert ex husband as the Republican candidate for US Senate in Illinois. Thankfully, Doug Flutie is Canadian, so we won't have to worry about his political awakening anytime soon.

It would be worth it just to see him completely 'loose it' and come completely unglued on the Senate floor :)

Considering all the bullshit that goes on in pro football, I don't think Ditka would be to far removed in the Senate.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

You know, why do we say pervert? It's not like any of us truly believe that senators, congressmens, etc are bunch of boy-scouts. The difference is Ryan got ratted out by his lovely wife.

Ditka is a fucking dolt. Check out this brilliant quote from Ditka to the Illinois Leader Newspaper

Mike Doltka wrote: "Well my platform would be what the people want. I hate to say that, that sounds so generic, but what do people want? You talk about banning smoking. Okay, why don't we ban abortion? Let's talk about things that are really important. You know you talk about, well, you think one thing can harm your health, the other one takes a life.

Come on here, you know you're talking to a guy that is ultra-ultra-ultra conservative. So you know people who don't like that, you won't like me one bit. But I think I'm about what the majority of this people in the country are.

I believe this country was founded under God. I think people who say it wasn't are crazy. But that's their biz; you know, that's me.

What you see is what you're gonna get. You're not going to like all of it. But you're gonna like some of it, and maybe you'll like enough of it to say okay this guy is all right."
He was a great football coach, but, I hope Illinois voters don't take that into consideration when voting for this douche.

Mike Ditka was a complete wanker as a coach. The 1985 Bears won because of all the talent the late Jim Finks loaded the team with and Buddy Ryan's "46" defense. They won in spite of Ditka, not because of him. His won-lost record owes a lot to the fact that from the early seventies, the NFC Central (now mostly the NFC North) has been the weakest division in the NFL.

On the other hand, he was a very good player, but WAY overrated. Maybe if the Dems start losing, they can recruit the greatest TE to come out of Illinois to take him on. Kellen Winslow was a better tight end, an accomplished lawyer, and not a total fucking buffoon. *

For once I agree with Elfdart, as a green-blooded Iggles partisan. Look what happened to Coach Ditka in New Orleans when he didn't have Buddy Ryan to build a defense for him.

That son of a bitch Braman never should have fired Buddy.

Last I heard, Buddy was raising racehorses in Kentucky. He named one "Fired For Winning". A lot of people don't realize that it was his defensive schemes and playcalling that not only won it all for the 1985 Bears, but also won Super Bowl III for the Jets. Namath only scored 16 points, while Ryan's defense forced four picks, two fumbles and only gave up one "oh, by the way" TD very late in the game.

One sign of that was during the NFL players' strike; during the scab-games, Jim Mora of the Saints ran a 4-0 record while Ditka's scab-Bears went 1-3, I think. Without his main talent on the field, he fell all over himself. Don't even get me started about what an embarassment he made of himself here in New Orleans and how he dealt away three years of the team's future for one running-back who he made a fool of in a press photo-op before the season opener and who never fit in properly with the Saints' offensive scheme.

The sense I've gotten is that most people in Illinois know Ditka's a blowhard and a egomaniac. Seems the Illinois GOP are counting on his name-recognition to carry the vote.

You can't blame Ditka.

Its a universal law: The Saints shall always suck. They are allowed to do well in pre-season when it doesnt count, but during regular season games they will suck. No amount of money or talent can alter their constant suckyness.

I'm a Saints fan and I believe it with all my beat of my Louisiana heart. Many coachs have tried to turn the Aints around (Bum Phillips, Ditka, ect) and they have all failed.

I think the current coach, Jim Haslett is pretty good. Once they fire him, he'll take another team to the Super Bowl. But you're right, the Saints couldn't with with Hank Stram! There are a few black holes of coaching (San Diego, Detroit, New Orleans, Arizona) and some great coaches have had their reputations tarnished by taking jobs with these teams.

At least they hired Denny Green to coach the team this year. Usually they've hired has-beens or never-wases. The last truly great coach they had was Don Coryell, and they fired him for a .500 season. They've had very few mediocre years, let alone good ones since. Funny, because the Chargers also fired Coryell, and have been crap ever since (with a brief exception 1992-1995 under Bobby Ross whom they also fired after a .500 season and have sucked ever since). Hmmmmm interesting pattern.

Ditka not running.

Post by Marksist »

Mike Doucheka decided not to run!

Source
CHICAGO - Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka announced Wednesday he won't run for the Senate, leaving Illinois Republicans desperate for a candidate four months before the election.

"There was a moment when I said, God, I'd like to take this and run with it, and then I said, you know, put your head on straight and think about what you're getting into," the pro football Hall of Famer said outside his Chicago restaurant.

State Republicans have been scrambling to find a challenger for Democrat Barack Obama since the winner of the GOP primary, investment banker-turned-teacher Jack Ryan, dropped out nearly three weeks ago.

I doubt it. I think average guys (and gals) would be as good if not better than the shmucks in Congress anyways. Average folk may not be the brainiest bunch in the world, but they'll be honest (moreso than most politicians anyways), and their positions will more likely be in the center.

I would, personally, take a congress with prostitutes rather than the lawyers we have today. That way, instead of congress screwing us, it'd be the other way around.

Oh so they're honest and moderate? Bullshit. We elect leaders to political office for a very good reason: Leaders are exceptional people.

I recognize the concept of being led by leaders, not sheep. I don't understand this anti-intellectualist movement in this country. All of a sudden, it's cool to be deprived of education, a "gangsta," being smart is something other people should be afraid of, being an "average guy" makes someone more qualified for important positions in the national legislative body and every opinion is considered equally valid. George W. Bush's presidency is a consequence of this bullshit "Everyone is special" movement going on in the country right now. At least Ditka was a decent football coach, not that it makes him qualified for the senate. Bush was and still is a completely mediocre man living a completely mediocre life.

You know why average Joes don't do very well in political office? Because they become puppets to the other, smarter politicians. They can be easily manipulated, and the first guy to pull his strings now has two votes in his house of Congress.
