Women seldom have love at first sight. Games. They prefer to play games.
I am the exception, then.
No games! I should let you talk to this girl I've been dating...maybe you can find out what I don't know.

That's flirting, dear. I try very hard to be honest. VERY hard. I don't like games. I'm a very straightforward person.

I know. It was a joke. My first assesment of your character, and I still stand behind it, is that you're an honest, energetic, straightforward, encouraging kind of woman.

And seeing as how you were declared the Official Mom before we learned about your flirting skills, others agreed with me.

The line between flirting and playing games is probably one of the grayest in existence and I think that's almost more of a problem for the ladies as it is for us guys.

Therefore, there is no reason for anyone else to take my own statements about my feelings for my wife as anything more than subjective prattle. If one has not experienced love, one can certainly conclude that it does not exist, and even if one has, one might very well conclude that it's nothing but a delusional state of mind. Just something to ponder, from someone who believes in it anyway"
-I have heard about scientific studies where brain activity paterns found in people in love (while thinking about the object of their love) matched those found using cocain IIRC (could be heroine or some other hard drug). I think that makes love rather objective. At any rate, I think one can only deny the existance of love if they are truly close minded or can't expericence it. I have never known love, but I can "taste" it and can't rationaly deny its existance. Still love is a delusional state of mind that takes up valuable processing power (a small price to pay though).

The Italians have a term for when BOTH people Fall in Love at First sight: the thunderbolt. Oh yes, that is a very descriptive phrase for what happens. When you first see her the whole world simply fades away and she is the only thing that exists in your universe for a few heartbeats. It really is an amazing experience, but more often than not a very sad state because only one person is in love at first sight and the other has to be coaxed into love. It's very difficult to pull something like that off when you're already fallen in love with the person and the other is neutral to you. You tend to not be yourself and the other person may feel very uncomfortable with your sudden deep feelings.

But if you expereinec the Thunderbolt as I did once, all is grand with the world. :D

It took me *ponders and calculates* 10 months before I fell in love w/ my girlfriend... (no I wasn't dating her for the 10 months prior to this either...)

We had a daughter together. but Unfortunately all was not well with her and we eventually had to seperate. But no matter what she will always be the one that moves me like no other and I honestly do miss that relationship. However life is like that and we cannot always have what we want, even if it is bad for us.

Love at first sight is a fallacy.

You can certainly have lust at first sight, but not love. In the long term you might look back and say... Yeah, that was love at first sight. But it wasn't. You really went... Yeah, those are some great tits. And then you got talking. And some months later you say... You know, it was love at first sight.

Seriously, though. Do you believe in love at first sight?
No. Do I think that it's possible to see <insert attractive gender here> and think "Wow, <he/she/it> is friggin' hot!" and feel lust and even flashes of fantasy? Yes. But love at first sight? That doesn't exist.

I figure this: As far as I know no one has ever been able to properly define love. Love is, in addition to that, subjective to your perspective. So, it's probable that you could fall in love with someone or something based solely on your first impression of it, yes. Our brains trigger to certain stimuli.

Now, love in general, I've had a pretty static sig since I got here that outlines my opinion there. :)
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

One's definition of "love" is required to adequately answer the post. Is the definition the kind of "love" that one says to one's wife a couple of years down the road, "You don't do anything for me anymore. That feeling isn't there anymore -- that warm and fuzzy feeling I used to get around you. I just don't love you anymore." I daresay that any relationship based upon that kind of "love" is doomed to failure before it begins, for it is based upon what an individual expects from another individual and is only selfish in nature.

However, if one's definition of "love" is based upon what one will commit to another individual (his or her life), then that is a more stable and permanent "love" that can grow and become stronger over time. Relationships based on that kind of love, we see in elderly people who have been married for over 50 years, still holding hands and glowing in the company of each other.

Well said. I wonder how many people actually *get* this sort of thing...
