Multiple input devices in Windows

Post by Pu-239 »

Is it possible to have both a trackball and a mouse attached , with the trackball to the serial port, controlling one cursor under Windows?

I don't see why not. You can install mice into laptops that have their own built in pointer and still use both at the same time after all. It should work just fine.

As far as I've seen, you can install as many mice as you have ports for and they'll all work, controlling the same cursor.

Well my laptop has a mouse and touch pad, both are functioning at the same time. Does that help?

As the people with laptops have illustrated, it should work-in theory.
However, your mileage may vary: I've seen everything from it working flawlessly through the mouse reduced to basics when touchpad active through devices exluding each other down to NEITHER working when both were active.
In short, the only way to find out for sure is go ahead and try...

'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

I know that a PS/2 mouse will work in conjunction with a Wacom tablet mouse.

Hell, I've had a PS/2 and USB mouse plugged in at the same time and both control the pointer with no conflicts.

I don't know about using the serial port but my desktop runs fine with a PS2mouse, a USB mouse and a USB graphics tablet all of which control the same cursor with no problems.

Similarly my laptop works fine with it's touchpad and a mouse.

One thing you might have problems with is the bundled software that comes with your assorted pointing devices. The software for my old 5 button mouse conflicted with the touchpad software on my laptop for example.
