When I try to run the setup for Freespace (1&2) I get this error message:
"Severe
Setup did not detect Freespace in your system registry, aborting...."
Obviously Freespace isn't in my registry because I haven't even gotten the chance to install the damned game!
HELP!!!!
EDIT: Since I have a legal copy of the damned game, I decided to download a copy off Kazaa. But I need two files to make it work and both are in the maps subfolder. I need the "capital03-04a.pcx" and "capital4c.pcx" files. Can anyone email me a copy of those files? I really want to play this game.

Are you trying to install with admin access rights?

No. I use WinME. (I know it's laughable) My computer isn't networked so I don't need admin\client access.Vertigo1 wrote:Are you trying to install with admin access rights?

You check for damage on the disks? Clear out your Windows/Temp directory just to make sure nothing there is mucking things up.

No damage on the disc and the temp folder is regularly cleared. It just won't install nor would the autoplay work on just that disc.Vertigo1 wrote:You check for damage on the disks? Clear out your Windows/Temp directory just to make sure nothing there is mucking things up.

Ok, have you tried the CD in another machine? Have you killed everything in the background other than Explorer and Systray?
What happens when you goto the run prompt and point it to setup.exe on the CD?

im gonna regret this cleaning of my to read posts, but I have to answer this.
first, the files in question can be found on HLP's FS FTP server I think, check pages in the general freespace section of the forums there, and links will be found.
Also, the freespace license allows you to share and distrbute the game to families and friends, if anyone has it, you can legally request a burn.
Moreso, if the file in question is in the FS2 install, deselect that group of files in question (high rez textures maybe) as all .vp files for fs2 are aviable on the server.
try cleaning your registry of any mention of freespace or voilition by searching in it, that might help.
now adios, I wish you many glad hours with FS2, the FS1 port to FS2 (there is no need for FS1 anymore), and the unofficial expansions and source code changes.

I think I need to clean the CD a lot better because I ran the disc on my other machine and got the same message.Vertigo1 wrote:Ok, have you tried the CD in another machine? Have you killed everything in the background other than Explorer and Systray?

EDIT: Hard Light Productions? If so I am having trouble accessing that site. I am getting a 504 timeout.
