CommandoJoe method:

(CommandoJoe is lying on the ground, surrounded by enemy soldiers.)
(He has something tucked away in his hands.)
(All of the soldiers aimed their rifles at CommandoJoe.)
(One of them yelled at him to drop what he had in his hands.)
(CommandoJoe opens his fingers and lets a grenade roll off his palm to the ground.)
(He grins up at the enemy soldiers.)

physical is relatively simple to deal with, just depends on how good you are at controlling or shunting pain, and how much damage your body can take before shutting down.

psych stuff is worse. most people's minds will break easially with total sensory deprivation, others like myself will just drop into a fugue(sp?) state until such time either the body terminates from other factors or the person is released. (btw, sens dep is actually pleasant for me because of the nerve damage, cuts the incoming data, leaving just the garbage from the random firings of the damaged nerves)

the best way to combat/handle psych torture is simply shutting down the mind or entering fugue if your mind is capable of it. (btw, what i'm referring to as a "fugue state" is more or less a type of sleep with all the sensor reactivations turned off, they're being monitored, but unless something changes you never come out of it and eventually your body just shuts down and you die.) i've been known to drop into such states at will in school just because i'm bored, generally my signal to leave the state is movement around me, granted it's not a high-level state like REM (which i can drop into at will as well), but mainly alpha stage sleep, body's shut down, most of the mind's shut down, but external stimulus will elicit a responce from the subconscious, so it's harder than hell to realize i'm out of it because i'm responding to questions, really freaks people out when i do it. i do the same on long car trips, spent over 48 hours like this on the vacation last summer in one chunk. same things allow me to actually fall asleep after loading on caffeine, granted sometimes things go wrong and i can't do it no matter what, like the other day.

btw, conscious shutting down of the mind and/or body is not considered advisable if you've only recently learned how to do it, you're quite liable to end up fubar. the mind for all it's strength is incredibly easy to break. i got no doubts that there are things out there which would break mine without any problem no matter what i'd do.

i personally am not fond of psych torture and/or warfare, i can handle it, but to most it's VERY cruel and leaves them broken for the rest of their lives. psychological scars may heal enough to be unnoticed compared to physical scars, but often times they never heal completly or properly. granted my knowledge of psychological effects on people makes me a real pain in the ass on such holidays as halloween, certain things will elicit certain responces, if you know what to do to get what responce, you can play most people's minds like a 2-bit fiddle without any effort. one of the best things if you're going to scare someone is catch them offguard, i.e. improper timing to what they expect, being in the wrong place, just plain appearing where you're not supposed to be, etc.

Damn, I hoped there were ways, sort of like Jedi-mind tricks, for getting around torture. Guess I've watched too many movies.

be glad it didn't work, if you screw up you're most likely going to just end up as a veggie with a dead mind and perfectly operating mind, i know from what i can do that if i ever wanted to self-destruct myself, i'd make sure my respiratory system went down at the same time as the mind, it's a surekill for both the mind and body.

About lying about information - may not be a very good idea. You might screw up a REAL disinformation plan.

Of course, the best way to resist torture is to NOT get caught. There is a reason why the Russian Hind pilots in Afghanistan killed themselves if they were shot down.

No you tool. The movie Brazil by Terry Gilliam. Worth watching. Especially for the revolutionary commando plumber played by Robert De Niro. And the line "Fancy a bit of necrophilia?"

Pain

Post by StupidWhiteMan »

I have a "talent" for absorbing immense amounts of physical suffering, which I have utilized in the past on many occasions, usually in testosterone fueled bouts of adolescent rage directed toward me, or the occasional mid-night/early-morning drunken wrestling matches in the back yard.

However, I have come to the realization that pain hurts. And I would like to avoid it as much as possible.

Of course I enjoy a delightful flogging as much as the next guy....

I still think I said it best...the best way to avoid being tortured is to be the one doing the torturing!
