I don't think there would have been the same reaction if she had said that. Sure some people might be pissed. But I doubt it would get people as riled up over Bush or O'reilly.

I like how she got her ass handed to her by Robin Quivers on the Tonight Show a few years back, when Ronfat insinuated that Quivers wasn't smart enough to understand that Howard Stern was just using her on his show to tell racial jokes.

My reaction would be unchanged: if it really upset the crowd that much, the casino should tell her never to come back. It's just good business, the same reason nobody requires customers to watch Teletubbies video clips before using the restrooms. They should keep the crowds happy. They aren't a political venue, and they don't need to put up with their performers pissing off their audiences.

I think that you're right that not nearly a big of a raucus would be made; however, that's because your Moore-Bush substitution is apples to oranges. If she had said "Rush Limbaugh is a great American patriot" when public tempers where high about him, there probably would have been a similar reaction to what happened when she mentioned Moore. If she had mentioned Clinton back in 1996, there probably would have been a similar reaction to your hypothetical Bush example. If she had said "Truman" or "McCain", no one would have batted an eye. It's simply a matter of how polarizing they are and what they've done to earn the title of patriot.

I hadn't even heard of her before today, but from what I can tell from this and a few other articles I've seen, she tried as hard as Darkstar to piss people off and intentionally get banned.

One of the local radio station reported that the reason Rhonstadt was supporting Moore was because he is her Weight Watchers Sponser.

Incidentlyl, Rhonstandt is originally from Tucson and a lot of her family still lives here.

Telling a Vegas crowd to go see Michael Moore's movie is like getting up on stage at a Pearl Jam concert and imploring the crowd to vote Bush. Entertainers should know better--it's their business to know their audience. It's another thing entirely to organize boycotts or CD stomping parties over an artist's views, but that doesn't seem to be happening here.

Ah, so who gives a shit then? I'd say the real story is not the hotel owner's actions but the fact that she actually received threats of violence over her comments (or at least, that's what they reported on the local news when I was out in that area).

It's a sad commentary on the state of American political discourse and communication in general (the threats, I mean).
