Wow! The great weapon of the communist revolution now sparkles with gold plated bougouis glory. The irony is delicious!

That is, quite obviously, an MP-5K. *thwaps*
And I must admit to some hypocricy on my part where such weapons are concerned:
While I think civil war/'Western (for want of a better word)' era weapons of that design can be quite attractive, the MP-5 Ein posted looks just plain pretentious.
Let's not mention the gold AK *throws up*

For such a weapon only one as truely devoted as I deserves the right to wield its shinny quick to distortness!

I agree with batman. That design looks better on guns from the mid 19th century. That MP-5K looks like something out of the Wild Wild West movie.

IIRC the AK-104 has a solid stock. That's a AKMS.

If memory serves, that gun is gold plated.

The AK104 does have a folding stock: It also has black polymer furnature instead of wood, uses AK74-style plastic magazines, and has a scope mounting rail: so I agree that the weapon in qin the pics is an AKMS

The AK-10x carbine series are the only ones that length (AK-74U is shorter, all of the others are longer, and the ribbed metal magazine means its a 7.62 x 39 mm, which had no carbines except the 104).

The AKMS has a sloped gas tube like all of the full-length AKs. Definitely an AK-104 due to the length and gas tube. I'm sure when one's able to customize the weapon with gold plating they can request a folding stock and the wood furniture.

Compare:

Third Image From Top, AKMS, notice sloped gas tube and barrel length

AK-104, notice straight, short gas tube and short barrel

Mystery AK, notice barrel length and gas tube length and lack of slope; only significant differences are the change of stock and hand grip, and the removal of the bell-mouthed flash hider

I stick by the AK-104 analysis because I don't think such a fancy weapon would be purchased belonging to such an ancient design, and I consider the removed flash-hider, altered handgrip, and altered stock much less radical design changes from the a much shorter barrel and gas tube (which lacks the distinctive slope to the muzzle in full-length AKs).

Meh... Maybe it's a completely custom job. I did some googling, and it seems this is all over the Web. Apparently, this gold-plated AK was found in one of Saddam's palaces, along with some 250 other gold-plated weapons (including gold-plated SVDs: see pic below), which seemed to serve a mainly ornimental function. Note the Arabic text and Iraqi Coat of Arms on the foregrip.

It can't be a -104, for several reasons.

1. The flash-hider is completely different.
2. The AKMS stock
3. The AKMS trigger group (the handgrip has a slightly different shape, and the bottom of the trigger guard is flat, whereas it slopes up in an AK-104.)
4. The two-piece handgrip, which is a single piece in an AK-104.
5. The AKMS magazine.

The entire gun looks like an AKMS, except for the barrel and forward sight. It's likely that they just swapped those parts out for the equivalent AK-104 parts (no idea why though)
