RANT: Stupid Villains....
You know what I'm talking about. It's a staple of every crappy TV show...the
Villains try to kill the heroes off, yet they keep failing everytime.
A nice example is Buffy....The villains keep trying to use mystical methods
to kill the Slayer, and they fail every time, when a few simple calls to the Mafia
could have resulted in the death of the Slayer due to a whackin' big car bomb
in the Slayer's car set to go off when the key is turned (A classic)
They're also a staple of the James Bond films, in which the villains never
just fire the damn gun, but have to tell Mr. Bond their evil plans.
A good example of a nice in between point between melodrama and
smart villians is Clive Cussler's hero, Dirk Pitt. He has faced down multiple
repeated assassination attempts on his life, from car bombs,
to drive by shootings, to being sentenced to death in a diamond
mine, to being dumped at sea in the south china sea with nothing
to help him...I could go on.....in the end, Pitt survives and kills
the bad guys, but the bad guys usually turn him into hamburger
by the end of the books, with bullet wounds, knive wounds, dehydration,
starvation, etc etc.

It's because they always fall prey to the #1 thing stupid villians do. They tell the hero exactly what their plans are, therefore allowing the hero to devise a plan to stop them because he/she knows exactly what the villian is going to do.
Anime has to be about the only place where villians are actually smart. Let's take Vicious in Cowboy Bebop. Now there is an intelligent villian.

Buffy doesn't own a car, and last season one bright idividual tried using a gun... Just see the Spider Man vs Buffy thread to see what happened to that poor character. And I disagree with your synopsis (or should I say attack) of BtVS. Season 1 main guy trapped inside the hell mouth, gets out and drowns Buffy. Season 2, Angel turns bad, could have killed Buffy, but Spike turned on him. Season 3 Faith/Buffy have the whole Slayer dilema, the Mayor should have killed her when he was indestructable, but waited till he ascended when he was vulnreable. Season 4 Adam needed Buffy alive in order to further his plans. Season 5 Glory felt that it was 'beneath' her to fight a common Slayer, and in the end Buffy did die (again). Season 6 the three stooges were there for comic relief, Darth Rosenberg had a change of heart (ala Darth Vader).MKSheppard wrote:A nice example is Buffy....The villains keep trying to use mystical methods

abandoned house...when buffy shows up to rescue them, detonate
the several tons of explosives you have placed in the house.
And to be sure, I'd pack enough C4 in there for it to be like a repeat of Port Chicago.....
EDIT: This is somewhat like how the Punisher killed spiderman in an alternate
universe. He set up a rag doll of Doc Octopus, and loaded the place
with enough C-4 to catch Spidey in the blast wave as he was swinging away
after realizing the entire thing was a trap...

scooby gang's wankfest powers.
So cheat
Whoever said you had to play nice?
This sort of reminds me of my favorite marvel comic....
In this WHAT IF? style adventure, the wife and children of Frank Castle were killed not in a mob shoot-out, but were instead caught in the crossfire of a super hero slugfest. Contacted by a mysterious group who have also suffered great loss, Castle is given a mission: kill those responsible for the death of his loved ones-the superhumans whose daily battles callously endanger the lives of innocents. Armed with an arsenal of advanced weaponry, the former soldier hunts down Spider-Man, Magneto, Captain America, the Kingpin, Daredevil, Dr. Doom, the Hulk, Venom, Wolverine and more. One by one, group by group, mutant or monster, the one-man army means to kill them all. Pity the heroes... and fear the Punisher!

It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.
