Planned Parenthood is proud to offer yet another t-shirt in our new social fashion line: "I Had an Abortion" fitted T-shirts are now available. These soft and comfortable fitted tees assert a powerful message in support of women's rights.
Is this supposed to be something to be proud of? I'm not against abortion but come on! How could you be proud enough of having one (powerfully asserted message aside) to wear a T-shirt declaring it?
Actually, it sounds like a shirt designed to really cheese of pro-lifers, even if they say that it's about "sending a strong message". This is what I call a "shit stirrer". It's there to rev up controversy and bring the issue to light, because pro-life groups will predictably make angry noises and Planned Parenthood will get publicity.
Of course, if I were a woman, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot polearm. I have absolutely no doubt there are plenty of pro-lifers willing to assault a girl if they see her wearing that. No doubt about that at all.

To me, there's something intrinsically obnoxious about wearing political statements on your shirt or as bumper stickers on your car. I get irritated whenever I see people doing that; the bumper sticker in particular is annoying. If you're stuck behind someone in traffic and he has some kind of political or religious bumper sticker, it's staring you in the face and you can't really avoid it unless you change lanes, which isn't a good idea to do willy-nilly in heavy traffic.

heh, The only bumper stickers I wille ver have on my cr would say things liike "Honk if you understand Punctuated Equilibrium" a Darwin Fish, or possibly somethng like "I <3 Science"
The only T-Shirt I have of that nature is one that says "Tolerate this'
However, while it may be bmoxious, if one side is going to plaster their cars and clothes with slogans, then perhaps it is prudent to make your own side equally visible. because Ideas spread liek viruses, if someone is only exposed regularly to one idea a herd mentality sets in.

I want a Liscense plate like that, but with a picture of those two cute little kids faces, and it says: "I had an abortion." Since it seems in Florida it's ok to "Choose Life" with this government allowed liscense plate, but there is no "Pro-Choice" liscense plate. Oh well.

Or respond to it. IMO it's exactly like a Sig Flame.
I have to agree that this sort of thing is really pretty low no matter who does it. Sure, voice your thoughts if the topic crops up in a discussion, but no one really wants to know nor cared for such opinions in everday living like this and you're bound to rile up people who could've been friends.

When I see plates like that, they're usually accompanied by Jesus fish and stupid sayings of some kind.

Only in Florida would such a wildly political license plate be approved by the state, while a man whose license plate merely reads "ATHEIST" gets his plate revoked by the DMV (not making that up, although I don't have the news link on hand).

Yeah, Florida's really bad like that. We're definitely part of the Bible Belt.
(I'm moving to Canada when I can, methinks.)

Imagine a guy walking around with that on.
I have to agree in this case. A bit of youthful obnoxious behavior is almost wholesome somehow.

Florida is a mixed bag. Several urban centers, such as the developed east coast north of Miami, Orlando, and much of Tampa Bay, are rather progressive, earning from the fact that a lot of the people living in especially Orlando and some of the coast north of Miami are from the northeast.
But the rest of Florida? The entire panhandle and rural everywhere and most of the smaller inland city areas are transplanted from the Deep South. Horrid fucks.

Why would Planned Parenthood want to stir the shit around and rev up controversy? They have Roe vs. Wade, abortion is legal and people should be able to find out how to get one simply by doing some research. Do they want the pro-life legions stirred up and trying to ban abortion even more than usual?

That's why they should bundle this with a complimentary dagger, or at least a can of mace.
