Election 2004 Hypothetical scenario

Post by EmperorSolo51 »

What would happen if George Bush loses the Popular vote and gets into an Electoral Tie with John Kerry in the Electoral College But Bush wins the Vote in the House? Would we see legal challenges and protests that would made 2000 look like picnic? Would the people on the Left accept a Bush victory in the House of Representatives? How would events shape as they approach the Inauguration day ?

There would be less grounds to call it illegitimate than his 2000 victory. Not that it would shut anyone up, but he would be legally elected. After Bush losing the popular vote twice, though, the clamor for abolishing the electoral college would grow considerably.

I don't think anything would happen, particularly. We would get protests, but not unlike the ones in 2000, and there would be people calling for changes in the electoral system again, but I don't see why it would make for any more of a big deal.

Well...you'd get a huge uproar about the Electoral College, twice in a row would probably be enough to push an amendment through to amend it, if not dump it entirely (Which would open its own can of worms...)
Unfortunately, Bush would be in entirely legally (Same as Jefferson was against Aaron Burr), so the uproar would be more about changing the system so that it isn't as fucked up, rather than Bush cheating his way in.
