Need Shield and hull strength numbers

Post by Fleet Admiral Blair »

Can any one get me the SBD shield count and the RU hull strength of the following vessels:

Quasar Fire Bulk Cruiser
Eclipse Star Destroyer
TIE x1
and the TIE Defender

I've been around and I can't find the SBD or RU strength of these ships (among others)

Any one have them or know where I can find them?

No idea

That would be because SBD and RU are not real valid units outside the game adn thus do not exist except for the vehciles in the game. Everything else will be in SI.

With three vessels...never made into Game format.(Quasar Bulk Cruiser and ECD, as well as the X-1...only stats exist for the TIE Avenger)

For the TIE Defender

100 SBD
20 RU
MM /CF/WG/BOTM/JL/Original Warsie/ACPATHNTDWATGODW FOREVER!!

Is there another more official numbering system for SW hull and shield strengths? Other than 1D or 1D+2, which I think is from another game.

What is the SI?

SI = System International, aka the metric system.

Sure. Shield strength is measured as the maximum amount of energy the shield is able to handle (through deflection/dispersion/whatever), and the figure is given in watts (in other words, how many joules of energy the shield system can handle per second). An example would be the Acclamator-class troopship, whose peak shielding is 7x10^22 watts (ref. ICS2). Several ships from Attack of the Clones have been given explicit shield statistics, and from these we can reasonably extrapolate the shield characteristics of similar vehicles. Lower limits for specific vessels and classes can also be obtained by examining particular incidents from the movies and the expanded universe. See here or here for a more in-depth look.
Hull strength would presumably be described in terms of the stress and buckling (etc.) resistance each hull has, but our lack of knowledge of Star Wars materials and construction sciences means that we can't say much about these specific values. We can, however, generate lower limits based on specific incidents, in the same manner as with the shields. I'm fairly certain no real units have officially been published regarding hull strengths, but we know they must generally be enormously strong simply by virtue of the great sizes of typical Star Wars vessels (see this essay for details).

I highly recommend that you give the following pages a look-through. They are standard reading for this board, and judging by your curiosity, you'll probably enjoy them quite a bit. Have fun! (plus, if you don't read them, you run the risk of finding out what RTFW! means)

from Mike Wong's page:

specifics to Star Wars vs Star Trek, if the subject interests you

These can also all be found in one or more of the reference stickies at the top of this and other forums here.

I've already read most of those. I was hoping more for a unit of comparison I could use with SW ships.

The closest thing to a unit of comparison you can get for Star wars ship combat capabilities would be to take there volume and divide it by the number of weapons they have, with a anti-missile weapon = 10, light weapon = 4 (2 for a warhead launcher), 10 for a medium (5 for a launcher) and 20 for a heavy weapon (10 for a warhead).
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Those are from the old West End Games Star Wars RPG (actually, their entire D6 system). There's also the new WotC RPG numbers, which are horribly low, as a blaster rifle is only 50% more powerful than a single round from an M-16. Basically, none of the game numbers work for a real-world conversion, and are only useful for comparisons of relative power.

That's what I want. So, I can compare the ships throughout the SWU

Hey, I revel in useless information.

Wanna know how much Superman weighs?
Or how tall Ghost Rider is?
The technical specs of hundreds of SW and ST vessels?

:P

Except that that's not all useless because some of it actually means something. Outside of the gameplay, this MGLT, SBD, RU bullshit doesn't mean anything and is ignored by everyone.

Superman's weight means something?

If the game stats are the only things out there, then they'll do

You don't get it, he means that outside of X-Wing Alliance, those figures mean zip.

The technical specs of the real ships in the movies and spin-off literature is only in bits and pieces. The most is available in the Ep 2 ICS.
