The more you demonize the Left, the more the Democrats are forced to move towards the 'centre', the more the Republicans can move further into Neocon territory, and you repeat the cycle ad infininium. Until the socially regressive policies and massive deficit spending finally catch up; I wouldn't want to be anywhere on this planet when it does. It won't be pretty for anyone.Frank Hipper wrote:The Right's extreme and unabashed hatred for for the Left is a very good point, many of them really are working to destroy it. Why?
Manic Progressive: A liberal who violently swings from anger at politicos to despondency over them.

A good question would be to ask why the hateful elements of the Right have such widespread support while the more hateful elements of the Left languish in obscurity. What is it about hateful intolerant extreme-right policies which makes them popular?

We live in a more socially equitable time than existed in the 50's and 60's, perhaps.Darth Wong wrote:A good question would be to ask why the hateful elements of the Right have such widespread support while the more hateful elements of the Left languish in obscurity. Add that to September 11th and the perception that anyone who wraps themself in the fucking flag not only can do no wrong, but are seen as "God sent" by the pop-culture sheep.
Or maybe it's because people are just hateful to begin with.

A facile explanation I can come up with is that the extreme right tends to be populist in that it's pandering to discontent and insecurity in the materialistic and pre-materialistic sense(focussing on economics and national security) while the extreme left tends to pander to discontent in the post-materialistic & intellectual sense, which far less people would be favorably disposed towards.Darth Wong wrote:A good question would be to ask why the hateful elements of the Right have such widespread support while the more hateful elements of the Left languish in obscurity. Because it's a lot easier to hate people in the name of patriotism and nationalism than in the name of saving wildlife preserves.Darth Wong wrote:A good question would be to ask why the hateful elements of the Right have such widespread support while the more hateful elements of the Left languish in obscurity.
