Looks like Georgia and South Ossetia (with Russia?) might go to war. This article gives a good primer for the situation.
Political analysts say that in contrast with Adzhara, a region populated by ethnic Georgians which never claimed full independence,
Saakashvilli reclaimed control of Adzhara (aka Adjaria) a few months ago.
South Ossetia and another breakaway province of Abkhazia are likely to be tougher tasks for Saakashvili. Saakashvili has accused Russian peacekeepers, who have helped maintain peace in South Ossetia since 1992, of siding with the separatists. The peacekeepers deny the accusations.
This isn't unlikely. It was Russian aid 12 years ago which secured South Ossetia's independence from Georgia. The South Ossetians, for their part, want to unify with North Ossetia (part of Russia).

It would take what? All of 5 minutes for Russia to crush Georgia?
Anyway, is there an actually a good reason why they decided to succeed, or is this just more of the same tribalist bullshit (that leads to a bloodbath) that we're all so use to seeing?
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Russia can most certainly crush Georgia in an open conflict, although I doubt that Putin will go to war for this as the Russian army would need to fight a guerrilla war that it can't win, at least without massive losses.

IIRC, the Ossetians are actually a separate group, but Adjaria and another small republic near the Turkish border were the same ethnical group.
