Nice to know we have our priorities straight in this nation.Airline bounces couple for risque T-shirt

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- A couple returning home from a Costa Rican vacation was ejected from an American Airlines flight because the man was wearing a T-shirt depicting a bare breast.
Oscar Arela and his girlfriend were removed from Flight 952 on Saturday after he refused to change the shirt or turn it inside out at Miami International Airport.
The couple, who were making a connecting flight, said nobody on their earlier flight objected to the shirt and claimed the airline violated their constitutional right to free speech.
"It's a picture of a man and woman, and the woman's breast is showing," said his girlfriend, Tala Tow. "The flight attendant basically walked up to us and yelled, 'You have to take off that shirt right now."'
American spokesman Tim Wagner said Sunday that crew members acted properly, and said the shirt was more graphic than the couple described. The airline gave them a refund, he said.
Wagner noted on American's Web site the policy clearly states that someone who is "clothed in a manner that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers" can be removed from a flight.

Most of us Americans have virgin eyes man! The sight of an unclothed breast could scar a young child's mind for life!

wow, talk about an incredibly vague policy. i wonder if they do the same to people wearing 'gangsta' clothes and extremely overweight people wearing tight outfits. those can be viewed as offensive as well.

I would assume they'd either make him put on a new one or turn it inside out.neoolong wrote:So if he had to take it off, and it's a t-shirt, they wanted him to fly bare-chested?

That it was a connecting flight is kind of fucked up. It's like it's okay for the first half of your trip, but not for the rest.
And if crew members acted properly by making him take it off, does that mean the crew of the previous flight acted improperly? I wonder if the will be punished for that.

I'm PETF People for the Ethical Treatment of Food, and I am offended when I don't see people wearing animal byproducts. That cow died for their dinner, the least they can do is wear its skin to honor its sacrifice and get full utility out of the animal.Slartibartfast wrote:I'm PETA, and I'm offended by the sight of any leather clothing made with the suffering of the poor animals. I must say that I'm all for the airlines having a dress code should they want one as long as it is specific and fairly enforced. Not knowing AA's policy, I really don't want to comment on this case, but I will say that while I personally don't mind the site of beautiful opulent women boobs, as well as a lot of other things, I do think as a matter of certain decency you should avoid wearing obnoxious clothing regardless.

The policy is basically they can boot you at any point if you're "clothed in a manner that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers." It is on their website, though not really easy to find.Wicked Pilot wrote:I must say that I'm all for the airlines having a dress code should they want one as long as it is specific and fairly enforced. It's also really vague and subjective.

Considering how much airlines edit movies, is this really much of a surprise?

Uh, excuse? Unless that was a sarcastic remark, virtually all pilots i've ever seen DO wear slacks, epaulets, and tie... civilian airline pilots, that is... I've never met military or private pilots though, so I can't say for them.Wicked Pilot wrote:That's aweful. Next thing you know they'll be requiring the pilots to wear slacks, epaulets, and a tie.

If WP is in Blues, instead of his body bag. he'd be wearing slacks, epaulets, and possibly a tie.Elheru Aran wrote:Uh, excuse? Meh, AA is a company, and they can tell their customers to do whatever the hell they want, since the customer isn't forced to use the service. I personally wouldn't care about titties on shirts, but I support AA's right to enforce that policy.
Speaking of airline dress code, I was once kicked out of first class on a flight from Boston to San Francisco because I wasn't wearing dress shoes. But it's not like I was wearing sandals, either; my shoes were all black. In fact, this is the exact type of shoe I was wearing. I was wearing them with khakis and a button-up short-sleeved dress shirt, and I was only seventeen years old. You'd think they'd cut me some slack.
Besides, I had made it from SF to Boston in First Class wearing the same shoes, on the same airline.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'
