This is for when Icehawk wakes up again:

- Is there any mention of the "Communications ship" and the "hangar-less destroyer" in the Battle of Endor? If so, what are they called?

- Have the Mon Cal. cruisers been given proper classifications?

Just take your time, you lucky bastard. 8)

Over one hundred times more massive than a common Star Destroyer and almost 12 times as long, the Executor bristles with more than 5000 turbolasers and ion cannons, and carries wings of star fighters and two pre assembled garrison bases.
Nice double jab at the small Executor brigade and the EU notion that it's official Imperial designation is Super Star Destroyer.. :P

This will be a day long remembered - it has seen the end of the five-mile fallacy, the shield dome myth, and the anti-holocaust theory, and more is yet to come.

A toast! To Dr. Saxton, without whose years of dedicated work and glorious technical commentaries, most of us wouldn't be here on this board. Lechaim, prosit, chin chin, salud, cheers, gan bei, na zdorovje, and à votre santé.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Hmm, I once wrote on a star wars site that the Executor was a battleship. Where does the 'dreadnaught'-classification fit in on the military ship-scale?

I´ll just have a soda, please. I´m driving tonight. :P

Star Dreadnought. The Star is important- it denotes a "super" type, if you will- so that a Star Destroyer will be more powerful than a simple Cruiser.

Having thus surrendered all element of surprise, but augmented with legions of snowtroopers, Veer's contingent of AT-AT's (large four-legged walkers), AT-ST's (medium bipeds), AT-AR's (faster, better armed bipeds), and AT-PT's (small one man scouts)-- dubbed Blizzard Force-- begins its inexorable march on the Rebel facility."

Dreadnaughts are a kind of battleship. The term fell out of use by WW2, I think. The naval war guys know more about it than I do.

The term Dreadnaught first came about with the HMS Dreadnaught built by the Brits before WWI. Before the Dreadnaught, "Battleships" were armed with an assortment of guns, both large and small. Designers eventually figured that an all-big gun ship would be better, thanks to the N-squared Law, and the Dreadnaught was built. Eventually people just started calling them Battleships.

This is all of course off the top of my head :D If anyone has specifics go ahead
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

In many science fiction series, a "dreadnought" is considered to be more powerful than mere "battleships" even though historically dreadnoughts were merely improved battleship designs. Saxton might simply have been following that tradition.

HMS Dreadnought had a uniform main battery -- which was its main innovation. Most battleships at the time had around four major-calibre weapons while Dreadnought had ten. She did have a secondary battery of 27 12pdr guns, however.

This book sounds awesome! One thing that has been bothering me with the previous books is the lack of bathrooms / heads. Have there been any improvements in this field?

EDIT: I'm so glad to see the exhaustive research made by Dr. Saxton finally entering canon realm. Hopefully, this will lead to improvements.

Uniform main battery, turbine propulsion and a more efficient hull form, which combined to allow her to squeeze three more knots out vis a vis pre-dreads.

Hush, you. Dreadnought is a much more appealing name than South Carolina, though.

Quick questions:

1) Does it state what the Rebel generator uses for fuel? (if its fission or fusion this means the AT-AT guns leap to the MT level)

2) Any remarks on rebel fleet composition, specifically the naming of all the unknowns found by Robert Brown

3) Does it comment on the size of Home One?

4) Does it talk about the imperial 3, hanger less destroyer, and communicatiosn ship at all?

5) Any images of the AT-AR?

I noticed that the AT-AT is mentioned having a more correct 22.5 metre height, rather than the 15 metres WEG assigned it. :)

Exactly, Spanky. It's good that the poor research WEG did is put to shame.

The 15 meter tall figure originated with the TESB radio dramatizations, which are canon, not in the EU.

<snippity snip>"At Endor, pounded mercilously by the capital ships of the Rebel Alliance flottilla, the ships shields fail. At that moment, the Rebels are able to strafe the command tower - and with the Executor's navigation suite in ruins and defensive guns loosing coordination, a careening A-Wing destroys the bridge."
OMG *splooge*
Well, this one pretty much clears up that the shields were downed by the rebel fleet, and blowing the SENSOR domes at most just blinded the defense systems allowing the A-wing to slip almost undetected (or at least unable to properly shoot it down).
"Eventually designated the Executor-class after the vessel assigned to Vader's personal use and commanded by Admiral Ozzel, it is usually referred to in rebel slang as a "Super Star Destroyer" -- a term that covers many warship classes bigger than a Star Destroyer, from Star Cruisers to ultimate Star Dreadnaughts like Executor."
Rebel Slang: check
Non-specific model: check
Star Dreadnought (class of ships, not model): check
Executor-class: check (makes sense that the first ship isn't called "Executor-class ship Executor")
"Over one hundred times more massive than a common Star Destroyer and almost 12 times as long, the Executor bristles with more than 5000 turbolasers and ion cannons"
How many guns did WEG the ship had? A few hundred?
Almost 12 times... 11 times and a bit, like we've said all along.

Well, the 22.6 M figure still overrides the 15 M one, as it more accurately represents what is seen on screen.

It is my understanding that the AT-ST design from TESB was retooled for ROTJ. Since the first incarnation received little screne time, small changes would easily be possible between movies without anyone but hardcore fans like us noticing. Perhaps Saxton is giving the TESB walkers the designation of AT-ARs. That's my guess anyway, I still need to pick up the book, it looks awesome!

I believe WEg rated it around only 500 TLs and 500 Ions

at 5000...it's better.
