We've Turned the Corner

Post by Darth Wong »

On last night's Daily Show with Jon Stewart, he made fun of George W. Bush for using the phrase "we've turned the corner" about a billion times over the weekend. He also made fun of Kerry for the most horribly marble-mouthed comeback I've ever heard (where the fuck did this guy learn his public speaking skills?)

Couldn't Kerry have come up with a better fucking response to "we've turned the corner" than his long-winded, silted, halting blather about how we've turned the corner ... and the corner that leads to ... jobs going around the corner right out of the country?

Here's one: George W. Bush says that "We've Turned the Corner". But he also says that we must "Stay the Course"! Doesn't that look like a Flip-Flop to you? Hell, I don't even have John Kerry's speech writing staff, and I came up with that in about 30 seconds. Kerry is the most inept politician I've seen since ... Gore in 2000.

I never saw Kerry's response so I really can't comment on it. Kerry needs the catchy politcal rhetoric to appeal to the masses, but personally I'd want to see the long-winded explanations. Turning a corner and staying the course could refer to different things, eg. We're staying the course in Iraq (ie actions the same) and we've turned a corner (ie. benefits of staying the course now visible).

But you're right about his public speaking ability. I kept hearing the rhetoric about "Kerry voting for war" from both sides, so I took the time to read Kerry's entire speech he gave before voting.

He's sitting on a great come back. Bush told the senate that voting yes *didn't* mean war (quote: "Approving this resolution does not mean that military action is imminent or unavoidable.") Bush said that it meant that america would speak with one strong voice, that war would only be used as a last resort.

Now you have Bush saying "Kerry voted for war" (said it on many occasions). Kerry could easily point out the potential lie: either to the senate or to the public. A nice flip-flop if you will.

But it sounds like Kerry is too afraid to bring up the subject of his vote.

But Mike, we 'stay the course' by turning the corner. Probably turning right. NASCAR turns left because they're a bunch of pinko-commie, bed-wetting, liberal, hippie, pussy douches.

Hmm... so NASCAR is really a sinister ploy by the commies to subvert the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, by going after the attention of the many beer-drinking, potato-chip eating Americans!

I still want to tell Bush that falling over a cliff is technically 'turning a corner'...

I still maintain getting flushed round the U-bend is a kind of corner turning.

That's why I don't care much for NASCAR; do you really think I want to see people take left turns in cars all day?
