It'd work, but it'd probably only be playable at 640x480 with low detail settings. I'd recommend at least a 5900XT if you were wanting to play it at 1024x768 or above.

Does anybody know if an NVidia G-Force FX 5200 would work with it? I'd really like to know before I do something rash like go out and but it without knowing.
If your processor is mid-level and up with that card it will be playable, just don't expect any toys to be on, and don't even think about AA. Just remember though, even at low detail settings this game destroys anything out there right now really. On the higher detail settings, if you run out of video memory it will start to use the RAM and that really shows video frames down, is your 5200 card 64 or 128 megs of ram?

What kind of weapons do you have in the game (other then the generic pistol/rifle/shotgun I've seen)?

Apparently, from what I read, there's also a weapon that kills enemies and gives you their health. I'm pretty sure now that I'm gonna get this game. I can't take much more of the hype...

Man, have you never played Doom, Doom2, Quake 2, or Quake 3?

It's the Big Fucking (Fragging) Gun. In Doom1/2, it's weapon that kills/damages almost everything in a cone in your LoS. In Quake 2, it's a giant fireball that shoots lasers at stuff as it travels. In Quake 3, it's more like a rapid-fire low-power rocket launcher.

WHAT the hell are you doing trying to run doom 3 on a GF3? a geforce 4 TI would be a minimum from the specs I've seen.

I've had a try at a pirated version at my dads office, its nice, cant see shit with the windows open, windows closed and I could see alot, but someone made too much darkness, even a hint more of ambient lighting would have improved the game alot.

I will buy this , this sunday, I suppose 1000 resolution with medium quality for a 9700 on 2ghz.

Maybe only the Shareware version.

The BFG was a thingy that sucked up like 50 Energy units per shot in Doom, took a couple of seconds to charge and launched a big plasma loogie that, when it exploded, killed everything both in the blast radius (about 2x that of a rocket), AND any enemy that was in your screen at the time of detonation - provided you didn't look AWAY from the blast. Only really strong enemies survived it (the lesser devils didn't, IIRC, but you needed like 10 of those to kill the big rocked devil or the giant spider).

It didn't hurt you tho, even if you fired point blank at a wall.

Two point blank BFG shots can kill a cyberdemon. One (1) blast can down a spider mastermind, but again, you'll need to be at point blank range.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Last time I tried it it was 4 shots for the spider, 6 for the cyberdemon, but meh whatever, that's Doom 1/2. :D

I'll probably either buy this game and just manage with my GF4 Ti4800 or wait until I buy a 6800....which could be who knows when.

The Ti4800 should pwn it as long as the rest of your system's up to spec.

My system:

Athlon 3200+
1024mb DDR PC3200 (Dual Channel)
gf4 ti4200 (64mb)

It works fine.

I'm running it in 1024x768 @ High settings and maintaining 40-60fps. When I bumped it up to 1280x1024 @ high, it dropped to 15, although that -was- in the Delta Labs Reactor room (going into a small hallway before it punched it back up to 40). I was rarely deviating from 60fps in 800x600@high.

Athlon64 3200+
1GB PC3200 DDR
GeForce 6800GT 256MB.

This game is a piece of shit. I had no clue you couldn't run it on Windows 98. So now after a grueling shitty day, when I think I'm going to come home and run it on a computer which I've worked my ass off to make sure system specs would the game, it won't even fucking load. What a god damn rip off.

Game companies dropped support for 3.1 eventually. Same thing is going to happen more often with 98.

I saw the hardware specs. I had no clue it wouldn't support 98SE. I mean fuck, I didn't even see it mentioned on the message boards. Albeit I didn't really read the Doom 3 threads.

If you can't switch to Win2k or better (as in, you don't want to "obtain" it), there's always the linux port, which will be available "soon" :P . There's probably a gaming livecd available for this purpose with the appropriate nVidia drivers available so you don't have to install Linux.

At least it has a chance of running on your system with the appropriate OS upgrade (which is easy). In my case, my system will never be able to run it (PII-450 with TNT2 graphics card.

On a brighter note, will this mean the Quake III engine will be open source in a couple of months?
